Made myself a "Deli Trio"... with more protein and lower carbs. AWESOME!!

I had a deli trio from Jack in the Box when they first came out and they were giving them away for free. I totally slurged that day. I thought it was delicious, but I figured I would never have it again for 2 reasons... it costs $3.99 (rather have the carl's jr grilled cheese for $1.99) and they have way too many carbs for my comfort. Here is the scoop on this little baby:

The Deli Trio: Genoa salami, sliced ham, roasted turkey, two slices of provolone cheese and two pickle fillets topped with a creamy Italian sauce on grilled artisan bread.  (627 calories, 28 grams of fat, 80 mg cholesterol, 2461 mg sodium, 54 grams of carbs, 4 grams dietary fiber, 3 grams sugar, 37 grams of protein)

Jack in the Box Deli Trio

I kept thinking about this Trio of deliciousness and thought that maybe I could make one at home for myself. I would need to figure out how to make the creamy italian dressing for the sandwich though. I finally went to the allrecipes.com web site and found a recipe for it.

This weekend I ventured on the wild side and actually bought the ingredients to make the dressing and sandwich. Let me say one thing... "YUMMY!!!" I have decided that this will be my breakfast from now on until I get sick of it.  (I don't do eggs anymore... don't ask!)

I replaced their "artisan" bread for my low carb bread, and tomorrow I will proceed to replace that bread with my flat out light wraps for an extra boost of proteins and less carbs. If I keep my orowheat light I am calculating that I will get 40 g protein and 19 g carbs. If I use the wraps I am calculating 45 g protein and 14 g carbs.

All I do to make my sandwich is toast my bread on the griddle with plenty of butter. I also put my meat on the griddle to warm it up a bit. Once done I take off the bread and slather my creamy italian like I would mayonnaise. Add all my meats, cheese and pickles and I am done! Love it!! Here is the creamy italian dressing recipe ( I didn't add the tbsp of sugar the original asked for, but I don't think it needs it):

Creamy Italian Dressing

1 Cup Mayo
1/2 small onion (I only added about 1/3 of the small onion, my preference)
2 TBSP red wine vinegar
3/4 tsp italian seasoning
1/4 tsp garlic powder (I opted for lots of minced garlic, I LOVE garlic!!)
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp ground black pepper

Blend everything in a mixer until smooth.

I hope someone else can use this recipe to spice up their menu, I know I was getting a little bit bored with mine. Now I have something else to play with. And best of all it is healthy, even when others give you the evil eye that you are eating like that

Ohh by the way, I also made myself some jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped with bacon... delish!! But definitely not for the faint of hear****er wouldn't stop the burning in my mouth so I ended up swigging some half & half and garggling it. My sister got a kick out of that one, lol.

OMG ... this sounds so good! I love deli food! Thanks, must stop by Albertsons tonight! BTW, Ken's dressings are wonderful, I use Creamy Italian and Buttermilk Ranch on sandwiches and salads. Full fat and full flavor!

Thanks for the tip about Ken's dressings. I have been on a "made from scratch" kick as of late (damn Food Network!!), but I will get over it soon enough, lol.

I have proceeded to make my own Alfredo Sauce and extra meaty pasta sauce to go with my dreamfields pasta too... umm umm good! Especially the Alfredo sauce, it tasted just like Olive Garden's. Now if only I could make low carb garlic bread to go with it... I would be in DS heaven

Wowza, that does look amazing.

I'm a little "meh" about the flatout bread, and am having trouble using mine up. Unfortunately, I got it at Costco, so it's comes in a big ol 3 pack, but making your sammich, I won't even care about the bread there is so much good stuff in there.

Yah, I'm trying this for dinner.

My flat out bread also tasted "meh," but with this one I put some butter on it and put it on the griddle then I filled it up and folded (I had also put the meats on the griddle). I then pushed it down on the grill to toast it a little tiny bit on each side and let the cheese get melty... ummmmm!!! I didn't even feel the "wheat" taste. All I could taste was the other stuff. Now I have actually found a use for flatout bread. I liked that it has protein, low carbs, and fiber... I just didn't love the taste, but I do now (with this sandwich at least).

Mar, thanks for posting this recipe! I made these for dinner last night and we both loved them.

I couldn't finish a whole sandwich but I got the meat down and had some bread left over.

I used low carb bread (5g/slice), havarti cheese, and Ken's creamy italian. It was a very good combination.

I did not take your suggestion to grill the meat directly to warm it up, but I should have. It was a little cool even after warming it between the slices of bread.

ETA: The only thing this is missing is bacon!

I have been having this sandwich for breakfast every day since I started making them. I LOVE it! I have considered adding bacon, but I have been lazy about making it. I usually use Saturday as my cooking day so I might just fry some up to have on reserve for the rest of the week. You can never have too much bacon, lol.

I think warming the meat up makes a big difference. I will make mine, but it all together and wrap it in aluminum that way the cheese gets to melt a bit by the time I get to work and eat it. I am all for melted cheese.. yumm!!!

Speaking of melted cheese, my mom made some chiles rellenos stuffed with monterey jack and I came up with the idea of making myself a hamburger and putting the chile relleno on it for lunch. WOW!! I had one side of the bun with mayo, a hamburger patty and the chile relleno on top with all that gooey melted cheese dripping out. I got more than a few stares from co-workers walking by and asking what that wonderful smell was and gawking at my burger. But it was all mine! I still can't believe I can eat this way and lose weight. AMAZING!

Here is what my mom's chile rellenos look like, imagine that topping a hamburger:

Next time I will have to add some bacon to the burger to make it even more DS friendly
