Did a surgery war open your eyes to the DS? If so, post to this thread.

A few years ago, I started a thread asking people if they had benefitted from the Surgery War threads on other forums.  If you have benefitted, and have not posted to this thread, please add your experience here.
http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/DS/3484967/Who-benefited-f rom-DSers-posting-on-other-forums/

I bring this thread up when the non-DSers get their panties in a twist about why we DSers pay it forward so aggressively, or proselytize, or advertise, or whatever pejoritive comment they have about what we do.  It is a very effective tool in our educational campaign, and it helps if it is updated from time to time.

Please add to the thread if appropriate.

Yes, yes, yes!  I was visiting the main board (for the first time) and saw people talking about how great the DS was compared to other surgeries and I thought I should check it out.   I had never heard of the DS and the fight was wild...but I thought for people to be so adamant about this DS thing, it must be good.  I checked out the DS forum and never looked back.  I am SOOOO grateful that Babycatcher had the guts to "pay it forward" even if she made people mad.  I LOVE my DS and know I would have been a failure (not to mention VERY unhappy) with an RNY!

Edited to say that I posted on the benefits thread.

Me! I answered the other thread but if it hadn't been for a surgery war thread and comments in the lap band section, I would never have even known about the DS. SO thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We have the same surgery date!!!  I'll be in Cornell in NYC.  How much fun would that be if we were in the same hospital??? We could do laps around the nurses station together!!

I totally agree, I am happy that I saw someone posting something about the DS on a RNY board. I had asked my local doctor's office about the DS they were so unfamiliar with it they described it incorrectly as only a restrictive procedure so I had completely ignored the procedure information.

I finally decided to do my own research since the RNY didn't seem like something I would be as successful on and am so happy to have found this site.

Thanks for being there. :)

Mine was not because of a Surgery war. I found out about a DS revision thanks to Kerry. I am so thankful everyday that Kerry answered my post.. and I have not even had surgery yet

Nice to see ya posting Diana! And yep, I think I make it very clear who got me interested in the DS, and I can't thank you enough!

Yep. I was done with testing and insurance approval and was scheduled for RNY in less than two weeks when I was wrangled over here from the Main board by some sh*t throwing surgery war. The post I remember most had a signature with something to the effect of "I eat 3000 calories a day and only absorb 1500". I didn't know about the DS at that point, but those words were definitely enough to pique my interest to learn more. So I researched everything I could and ultimately decided I didn't want to deal with the RNY pouch and it's limitations, bleeding ulcers, stoma issues and anorexic-sized portions. So now, I'm heading over to the dark side.

I've learned much more than the 3000/1500 calorie deal, and I think I will come to  the DS, eventually.

ETA: I just read your signature---and maybe it was YOU that got my attention back in January! Hehe, how cool is that?

I'll copy this to your link, too.
