How do you know when full?
At the beginning, I religiously measured portions of 1/4 or less and could barely tackle those over half an hour's time. I had no desire to pu**** because I didn't want to mess up my surgery. Once I was healed, I could eat more but if I went one bite past full, I had this awful feeling some DSers call "chest brick." Kinda like a huge-ass brick right in your esophagus! So I learned to recognize that feeling and how I felt just before it, and I made sure to stop BEFORE chest bric****urred!
I have only vomited once or twice since surgery, when I ate something without being mindful at all. When I concentrate on the food and eat with proper concentration, I don't get overly full or sick. While I don't have the restriction I wish I had, I have really learned how not to overdo it and that feels good, because pre-surgery I never stopped in time and I almost always felt lousy.

Runny nose, check.
Seriously, I have a mental block against vomiting. Will. Not. Do. It. But the first time I ate too much, I almost did. Shrimp scampi, and it was good. I figured, "What's one more shrimp?" I'll tell you what one more shrimp is - it's hanging over the toilet, with your mouth doing that disgusting watering/drooling thing, spitting and praying that you could just PUKE. This from someone *****fused to puke through 3 pregnancies.
Yeah, it hurt. And it took over an hour to go away. Felt like I was full of cement, and it was horrible.
I DO NOT overeat anymore. I have found, though, that the slower I eat, the longer it takes to fill up. So I have had to learn to eat slower if it's something really yummy, and that way I get all my protein in. If I woof it down, I only get a little bit.

With RNY I'd begin to foam - phlegm would build up and make me sick. I'd have to run to the bathroom and hurl. With the DS sleeve, I just feel full. If my nose starts to run it's a signal.
I just ate too much catfish. I know I did. I won't have any problems but I'll be uncomfortable for a few minutes.

I get the hiccups/burps when I'm "done". I have learned to eat much slower than I used to. I've only ever really overeaten to the point of discomforta a few times. And each time was because I ate too fast and didn't recognize being full until too late. I've never puked though (thank God).

Loving my DS!!

I don't do the runny nose, sneezing, hiccups or any of that. I did vomit once and I'm pretty sure it was due to overeating at about 3 weeks out. I felt full and kept going for another few bites. Then over the next few hours I felt horrible and nauseaus and was doing my best to not puke (I was on the road). I puked a few hours later (about 10 minutes after I got home) and felt WONDERFUL.
Now, I just feel full. Sometimes I'll still want to try and cram in a few more bites if it's something yummy, but I try not to do that since I don't want to stretch my new stomach and I don't want to have that too full feeling. By "too full feeling" I mean that way overstuffed from too much Thanksgiving dinner feeling you get now as a pre-op.

This is going to sound weird but I will be eating and after a few bites when I put something in my mouth, it "rejects it". I don't want to chew and I make this "hmmmm" sound almost like I just ate something bad or weird tasting. The sensation comes from my mouth. My stomach does not feel full and I don't have any other feelings. I wonder if that is how normies feel????
Sure enough, within a minute or two I'll get the hiccups!!! If I haven't eaten enough protein, I'll wait about 15 minutes and eat more. The 2nd round I can eat more. I can get in a good amount of food if I just give it time.
Cheers,
Cathy
