Typical Day in the life of a DS'er? :)

Do check out the food and fitness threads to give you more day in the life looks.
When I was losing and my stomach capacity was very tiny, I would eat my protein first > then veggies > then whatever I wanted with the last bite or two left, be it bread, pasta, or chocolate cake.  This way, I was satisfied and never felt deprived.  I didn't count carbs, but was careful not to eat the simple ones until I'd had my protein.  This kept me from getting too butt-wild.

Morning, I like to have something for breakfast, be it oatmeal, protein drink, toast or an egg souffle from Panera for a treat.  I accompany that with a bigazz diet coke that lasts me through at least half if not all of the day.

If I'm not teaching, you'll probably find me digging for a snack.  My latest snack has been cheese crisped on parchment paper in the microwave.....but I'm no stranger to the animal crackers in the vending machine, either.

Lunchtime is pretty typical for the average person, only I eat half of whatever sandwich or burger I get, then dissect the rest, leaving bread and other items behind.

Another snack comes around 2pm if I'm at my desk, and I'm usually whoring for candy at the receptionist desk.

When I get home I'm famished, so it wouldn't be unusual to grab a PB&J or something.

Dinner is whatever I fix my family.  It's usually meat and veggies, with some potatoes or other starch, where I enjoy the smallest dab.

There's usually one more snack and it has to be on the sweet side, be it splenda or whatever.

I was just like you pre-op.  Breakfast was two pop tarts and a Monster drink.  Add a few more cans of regular coke and my sugar intake was over 200 grams by the end of the day.  I didn't try to cut down pre-op.  And post-op, it just hasn't been an issue.  I'm not drawn to them.

Now, I usually have a hunk of cheese as soon as I get up so my first batch of vites aren't on an empty stomach.  About an hour later, I have an egg with cheese (ok, I have half, the dog has half).  He loves me!

Snacks at work are usually some kind of seeds or nuts.  Lunch is deli meat, or a meat salad from the salad bar (chicken, bacon, cheese, olives and full fat dressing).  A protein concoction made with yogurt, frozen strawberries and protein powder for an afternoon snack.  Dinner is usually a piece of chicken and if I need more protein, another mini protein shake before bed.  Phew, I'm full just typing that.

The portions are small, but so is my stomach.

I am over two years out.  I pretty much eat the following way now, BUT I ate less than 30g and then 50g of carbs the first 6 months or so. My goal was to get the damn weight off, and my body didn't want carbs those first few months, so I took advantage of it.

Breakfast
frozen quiche or bacon and cheese, maybe an egg
milk or Diet Coke

Snack
cubes of cheese and some crackers
Diet Coke

Lunch
lunchmeat sandwich with cheese, mayo or fast food burger, fries and drink
Diet Coke

Snack
cubes of cheese and some crackers
Diet Coke

Dinner
Some sort of protein and veggies OR some sort of soup with tons of cheese in it OR some strange cream cheese, cheese and chili tip I like with tortilla chips OR a big, protein-laden salad (eggs, cheese, bacon, etc.)
Diet Coke

Snack

Here's where I tend to go bonkers and have Oreos and milk or ice cream OR both!

I tend to eat some candy or sugary coffee during the day. Hersheys, Dove, etc. If my protein is on the low side, I could have a protein bar, but I try to avoid those if possible.

I was a carbaholic before too. If my weight creeps up, I will adjust my carbs accordingly.

I would start to address the carbs and sweets prior to surgery.  If you eat all simple carbs after
surgery, you will have a green smelly cloud following you every where you go.  Simple carbs play havoc with most DS'ers.  Plus if you can't eat simple carbs in moderation, you will regain your weight.  I have given up simple carbs because I find it easier not to eat them, then to eat them in moderation.  A common theme in groups and OH is how addicting simple carbs/

We have a people in OH who are not pleased with their weight loss, or have regained substantial weight, because they did no****ch their carbs after surgery.  I know someone who has regained over 100 lbs (it might be 150 lbs) in the last 18 months because she ate whatever she wanted.

DS is GREAT for weight loss, but people have proven that you can screw it up if you can not control what you eat.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad to see some carbs in there though, heh that makes me glad that I'm not forever banning carbs.

I will check out that thread - I thought it was recipes TBH, so I had overlooked it. I'm really picky, so recipes tend to go right over my head.

While there's some variability, most DSers lose their overpowering draw to carbs.  I wouldn't worry so much about possibly being able to avoid eating a lot of sugary items, the draw just won't be the same - at least for a good 6 months.  You lose a heck of a lot of weight those first few months!  I also encourage you to peruse the bites & vites threads.  Men can eat a lot more than females, on average, even among DSers.  Here's a sample typical day for me at one yr out:

two eggs, scrambled with cheese or boiled if I'm short on time
1 piece whole wheat toast

few handfuls of nuts or sunflower seeds

3/4  - 1 cup of no-bean chili

Atkins protein bar

(workout)

some kind of meat/fish source that's quick, like a double cheeseburger (minus 1/2 bun), BK fish sandwhich (minus 3/4 bun), 2 strips of Tyson honey bbw chicken

handful of some snack - most often chips & dip, or piece of toast with either PB or cream cheese, or cup of hot chocolate.  Sometimes it's just plain old chocolate!  I tend to have this snack if I've worked out that day, otherwise I often don't, just not as hungry.
