Venofer Infusion (with pics)

I thought I would update about my infusion. It really was no big deal. I even took pics in the hope it would ease someone else's fears. Some were taken out of order, but you'll get the idea.

My appt. was for 8 am. I was shown into a room full of chairs. I was the only patient in there for 85% of the time.

I was told to pick a recliner, and a pillow was placed on my lap. After taking my temp, blood pressure (114/78!), and pulse, and signing the waiver/treatment permission sheet, the nurse started my IV. She found a valid vein in my left hand with no problem, and started a saline solution to test the line.

After she made sure that the IV was okay, she started the venofer, which looks like rusty water as you can see. I was told to notify any nurse in the area if I felt weird/funny in any way.

I was told they had water, coffee, and crackers available. I declined as I had brough****er and a protein bar (like a good ds'er!). I also brought my ipod, and declined the remote to the tv. I kicked up the foot of the recliner, turned on my tunes and relaxed.

After 15 minutes, the nurse returned to ask if I was okay. I was good. And sleepy as I didn't get much rest the night before. Next thing I know, I'm waking up! It was an hour later. I talked to another patient that had arrived while I slept. Soon, the bag was empty and I had to wait another 20 minutes for
observation. The whole affair was over in 2 hrs. I go back next thursday.

Nothing to dread, nothing to fear. Easy Peasy. Hope this helps someone!

How very considerate of you to think of this - and take the time to actually take pics and post....with comments!!!

I hope I never need an infusion, but if I do I will have this in my mind.

Thanks, Cee!!!

Julie,
no problem! I'm a scrapbooker/memory keeper by nature, so toting around my camera is second nature. Someone (and I can't remember who!) took the time to write out their experience with Venofer on their blog and it really helped me to calm down. I thought I should pay it forward for someone else.

You know, I've had 6 of these so far and have never thought of documenting the experience. My bag is much smaller than the one they gave you.

Thanks for doing this, you're a doll.
