Ferritin up from 5 to 103......It is working.
I took infusions about 8 years ago when I suffered from malabsorbtion due to a pancreatic problem leading to severe iron deficiency. I went through 4 iron infusions, 1 every 3 months. I think they were pretty high dose since I was allergic to the stuff and they were hoping that just one would do the trick. Well, 3 month later I needed some more but after 4 in one year my ferritin went up into the 500's. Then my pancreatic problem went away and I haven't needed any infusions since. Immediately post op, I had a ferritin of 98 and my iron was low. I took prescription iron and my ferritin actually skyrocketted - became post menopausal at the same time. Now I don't take any iron but my hematologist keeps an eye on me to make sure my low levels dont' come back. Right now everything has normalized.
