Review on Sweet Leaf stevia sweetener

of course, I may be the last person on earth to find this out, but I have so much splenda at home I never even tried stevia until I was at the local hippie-dippie organic-expensive food market, and put their (free) Sweet Leaf powdered stevia in the my tea there.  (I can say hippie-dippie, I used to be one)

So I went online to search for it (cheaper) elsewhere and look at the cute little thing I found.  It's a travel package the size of an altoids tin with 4 teeeeeeeeeny weeny containers of liquid stevia flavors:  lemon, orange, chocolate raspberry and vanilla.  These are perfect for adding to water to make your own fruit 2-O or to coffee for a flavored coffee.  The sweetening is incredibly like sugar, more so than any other sweetener I've tried.  Here's where I got it:

I bought Sweetleaf Stevia powder sweetner and I have to say; I'm a little disappointed.  I didn't feel like it was sweet enough.  I feel like the "sweet" came as an after taste.  But, it was only $15 on Drugstore.com, so no major harm done.

so maybe people should do what I did:  filch some from the hippie-dippie supermarket to try before they buy.  Here in Asheville, they could run into Andy Macdowell shopping there...

I drank Tropicana  Trop50.    It's made with stevia.  Can't remember how much...maybe 8 oz.

There are different formulations of stevia and some people swear by  the pure extract while others use the dried in packets approach.  I tried the packets and found it had a bit of an aftertaste for me.  YMMV - I've been told it doesn't take much to alter  the taste of it.

Odd that it took so long for FDA to approve this in the US.  It's been used in Europe for a long time.

I shopped for the stevia sweetener when it first came out here at Wally World.
Truvia has sugar alcohols in it, SunCrystals doesn't.  I use the SunCrystals and it is great.
I do have to use two packets to one of the the nutrisweet.  But I like the flavor of it better.
I haven't had any stomach probs with the SunCrystals.
