Alicia,

That's exactly what happened with mine.  I figured it up and it came out to be what Dr. A said he wanted me at.  I really hope not though b/c, like someone else, I kinda like where I'm at (actually, I wish I could lose a little more just for wiggle room).

I don't know about the validity of this algorithm.  I think a LOT more study may be needed, or maybe  it just doesn't apply for DS'ers.  Kerry wasn't in the above 50 BMI category, so, sorry Kerry....but you don't count  (I mean, for this study, LOL)

(plugging in my numbers)
If  EBMI = 73.8   x  0.33  + 14=   24.35 + 14 =  38.35    which translates into ending around 225 lbs.   I'm at 170, a BMI of 29.   I keep thinking, if I cut back on the carbs, and , maybe , added some exercise, I could get rid of the last 20 pounds I'd like to see gone.  I don't know if a BMI of 25, or 146 lbs, is a real possiblity..... but I keep thnking about it.
C'mom, peeps,  plug in your numbers, do the simple math, and see if this algorithm works for DS'ers!!!   Mary C

An algorithm is just that "an algorithm" - it is not the maximum nor is it the minimum  - so kudos to those who beat the expected norm and lost more - and gave everybody hope.

I do like *real*  numbers....  my goal was set by my Doc and me,   We thought I'd lose about 200 pounds, so my first goal was 230 pounds.  When I hit that, we decided maybe another 30 was possible....  and then I made that.    So, now I'm hoping for a 'normal' BMI, which would put me at 146.  However, I do wwaaayyyy more 'thinking' than 'acting'.  I need to cut back on the carbs, and I need to get some regular exercise.   However, I can shop in almost any store, I do not live in fear of losing my luggage on a plane, and being stranded in the Florida Keys with no "big girl" stores.  (yep, it happened) and I can fit in a movie seat next to a 'regular' or even a 'big' guy and be comfortable!   I am off my B/P meds, off my diabetes meds, off my cardiac meds, and off that damn CPAP!!!!!!   YAY!   If I never lose another pound, I am sooo better off than I was pre-op.   Onederland is onederful!      I re-read the original post, and it is all geared to DS'ers....  so ....  maybe the OH posters are just the most successful bunch.  Maybe, being here, and learning constantly, and keeping in touch with current trends on supplementation, etc makes us more successful!  Another reason to keep reading and posting!   Good luck to you, and I'm sure you'll be in onederland in no time!   Mary C

I was a starting BMI of 52, and that formula puts me at BMI 31.16.   My current BMI is just under 31, and I'm 4.5 years out.

Pretty accurate as far as I can see.
Six years postop.       All co-morbidities are resolved.  Lost 101lbs in 1st year.   High wt: 277 Surgery wt:  260.7  Currently:  143lbs.    I'm Blackthorne99 on MyFitnessPal.

Hmmm...puts me at 210ish...I wonder how much of that would be loose skin. I would be happier with 210ish than I am now for sure, but I would be more happy with 175. I didn't think that was unrealistic for my height 5'7" and bone structure. I guess time will tell.

I don't think mine will be accurate either with this formula, but probably  more accurate with the BMI-25.

45.5 X 0.33 = 15.02 + 14 = 29.02 (which will put me at about 180 lbs)  I am currently 191 lbs at only 7 months out. At the rate I lose I find it hard to believe I'll only lose 11 more.

Using 45.5 - 25 = 20.5 would put me at about 130 lbs.  My goal is 147 so I'm going with somewhere in the middle

disclaimer:  I did not start with a BMI over 50 and I'm not 3 years out....I just wanted to play along cause I'm bored.
 Best Wishes,
