Melody,
I am one of those wait it out persons so I heard your message loud and clear.  You never know how many people your message might save in the future.  Thank you for making this very clear.
I am so glad you are doing better without surgery.  I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.  Take care of yourself.

Cathy

Mel I am glad that you feel good enough to post this.  I am one of those that have ignored this type of pain before.  I once had it while pregnant and went to the hospital and it resolved itself.  Last time I had it I told you about it and stuck it out spending the night crying doubled over in pain.  Next time this happens I will march my ass to Lenox Hill immediately.  Call me if you need anything and I hope you don't have to go through this ever again.

I'm so glad you went to the hospital!  I am three years out and had a small bowel obstruction last September which required surgery (which led to a complication that nearly killed me - the details are on my profile), so every time I notice a post from someone saying they have abdominal pain I strongly encourage them not to ignore it!  Even if it IS just gas or something, better safe than sorry!!

Pain is pain for a reason ... it is not intended to be ignored.  My pain was a lot like you described - I waited 8 hours before going to the ER because I thought it was food poisoning or gas or something that would just go away.

Thanks for posting ... hope you're feeling better and that it stays straightened for you ... but if it doesn't, you know what to do.  :)

Be Well

Thanks for posting this !!! I am glad you are feeling better and it seems to be better !!

As a newbie and a nurse, it still  needs to be brought attention to,,, some of us do not have all the warning signs embedded in out heads !!!

Speedy recovery!!

Anyone can develop an obstruction, but they are particularly more prevalent in those who have had major abdominal surgery.  Plus, as we lose weight, there is more space for our guts to move around so it's easier for them to run into those adhesions or get kinked.
