Anyone have experience with this?  How bad was it; the truth!  I will be sedated, but not sure how out of it I will actually be.

Thanks!
Blessings,
Mindi

Every person that's had the DS pretty much has had it.  I didn't know a thing, I woke up happy from the Versed (sp?) they use to put me under.  If they do a biopsy your throat might be a teensy bit sore.  I could eat and drink normally afterwards.

You'll be out of it.  Very pleasant drugs, bye bye, then it's over and you're moving on with your day.   I promise it won't be bad.

Easy as pie!  I was totally out for the entire thing.  I even got color pictures of my insides after it all.  I thought it was kinda neat, but I'm geeky that way.  The doc that did the egd and colonoscopy is one of the best in the area.  He geeked science with me and took time to show me all the cool things inside my gut.  I lub science!!

Hugs and don't fret, the anticipation is the worst part.

Good to know.  Dr. I is actually the one doing the endo; is that weird?  I just had a wisdom tooth dug out last week and I wasn't completely out for that.....made me a little nervous that I might be a little "too with it" for the endoscopy.

My surgeon only does the endo for suspected issues; we suspect I have a hiatal hernia; it is not standard practice before ds for this practice.

Nope, my surgeon did my endo, too.  I was extremely anxious, so much so I could not relax.  As soon as they put the Versed in the IV, I was gone.  I got color photos of my insides, too, and he said that the only definitive way to see a hiatal hernia was during the actual DS surgery.  Reason for my endo was GERD and acid reflux, which have both disappeared post DS.  And I had no hiatal hernia, either.

You will do just fine.  The drugs make you not remember any of it, and you probably won't be groggy afterwards, either.  I even got a cup of coffee afterwards.

My surgeon did my EGD himself also. I think they like to see the stomach tissue/upper portion of duodenum for themselves. It was totally not a big deal! I woke up in recovery and told them my nap was too short. lol I had some nice apple juice afterward and all was well. No memories, not even a scratchy throat. They didn't pass the scope until after I was soundly asleep. Though I wasn't permitted to drive myself, but the time we got home it was like nothing had happened.

I was super nervous too, I suffer from anxiety and panic disorder, so I was kinda freaked.  However, once the meds are in your system you will not feel or remember anything!  I had a biopsy done and my throat wasn't even sore!  They found a hietal hernia which will get fixed during my DS.  Don't stress over it...

I have anxiety and panic too!  I have been through a lot in life, but still get a bit nervous.  I am actually more nervous that they are going to find something like cancer....stupid, I know.

Did you have any symptoms for the hiatal hernia?

I had absolutely NO symptoms of a hietal hernia, no GERD or anything.  I spent the days before mine worrying.....don't do what I did.  I like to say that it's a piece of cake, but that's not funny!!Good luck and let us know how it goes.....
