Hey babs,

Regain with the DS is very minimal.  With usually a bounce back of no more than 20 pounds.  I have never seen a DSer who has gained all of there weight back, or even 50% of there excess weight back.

With the DS you have Malabsorbtion, which is for maintenance.  The sleeve portion is for the initial loss.  And yes, DSers can gain their weight back due to poor compliance, However!  It is very hard to do.

Any WLS can be successful with compliance though.  Doesn't it strike you as odd that 30% of RNY patients will regain to where they will need another surgery?  I don't think it's all compliance issues.  I believe it's manufacturer error for the most part.  It has to be.  That is a HUGE percentage.  Huge!  That's 3 in every 10 people.

While I understand where you are coming from, I am not discriminating against any particular person, or their choice.  I am very discriminative of this surgery though.  To tell you the honest truth, it is extremely flawed.  It really is.  Not saying the DS is perfect, because no way in hell it is.  The main reasoning for this post is to show how money hungry these WLS docs really are.

HI Brok,

I totally agree. That is a very high number and if I had a choice with this knowledge between a RNY and a DS, I would surely go with a DS. I saw an article recently about a surgeon in Dallas who does all types of WLS with the exception of DS and he used to push lapband, now pushes RNY because his office has trouble getting approvals for VSG's. When I revised, I met with him and he is definitely the most money grubbing person I met. I did get an insurance approval through his office for VSG and then moved it to Dr. Roslin in NYC who actually cared about me.

Hi Babs!  We have the malabsorption factor in our favor thank goodness!

Some DSers never make goal and some gain some/all of their weight back--which is very sad and must be devastating for that individual.  There are always exceptions.  Fortunately that is a very small percentage of people.

Another thing, nowadays DS surgeons are starting to make their sleeves the same size as the VSGer's sleeves.  My sleeve is/was 50 cc...or 1-2/3 ounces.

Yes, seriously!  I must say that you also seem as nice and genuine as you are good looking.  Your success is just amazing and inspirational.  I also can't wait to make your pizza recipe (I think it was yours).

That doesn't surprise me....there are ALWAYS huge flaws with EVERY man.  I'm sure you are there kicking them back to him and doing high fives when one bounces off a baby or old lady.

HI, I just wanted to add that I dont agree with the article since it does seem like a marketing phishing expedition lacking compassion for folks that experience regain.
