Intertrigo aka rash under breasts and belly treatment -- TMI -- not for squeamish

I meant to post this earlier, when I asked about stevia, but I really needed a nap.

I've had rashes under my belly for years, and simply considered it par for the obesity course...it usually doesn't bother me at all.  I showed my dermatologist once, and she said the Retin A Micro 1% that I use for acne and stretch marks would help, though I never dared put it there.  It's dark meat under there, in contrast to the rest of me, if that gives you a mental picture.  I do keep it clean, and I have it documented for plastic surgery purposes (as well as everywhere else that needs it), which will come after the DS.

The recent flare ups under my left breast (and a little bit under the right), though, are different.  It's never happened before now, and it's gross.  We're talking yellow green ooze on cheesecloth.  I went to the dermatologist, who said it is indeed because of friction.  She gave me a couple samples of Locoid Lotion 0.1%, and a coupon, which still doesn't justify the price, even though insurance pays for some of it.  I aggressively cleaned under there, and applied the samples.  It began to clear up, so I stopped putting cheesecloth between my bra and skin.  Needless to say, it showed up again.

I cancelled my prescription, because the rash was going away, but I might call the dermatologist again and have her write a new one.

Before I bite the bullet and do that, though, I wonder if you have had any luck with less expensive options?  The Locoid is supposed to be $144 after a $35 coupon that is good for three times.  I read a post on here about something like this, bookmarked it, then lost it.

I still have some of the samples, yet, in the meantime, and I've been changing my cheesecloth.  A good wash with soap and water tends to dry it out, and under my belly, I always use a pretty loofah sponge with shower gel until it feels clean and not oily/greasy.

The dermatologist checked INTERTRIGO on my copy of my receipt.  Here's some info.  I say it's one of the worst things about needing to lose weight.

Oh you poor thing. I am soooooo sorry you have to go through this. I am glad you have it documented for later sake but you have it really bad now. I don't have any ideas or knowledge in this area but wanted to give some online support anyway. Good luck. This board is awesome and I am sure someone will know something.

Before WLS i used to get that .

I used polysorin creme on it and it went away usually in a day or so.

Good luck

For under the belly when I have the rash or it welts up from hanging I just put Desitin the stuff you use for babies diaper rash on there and that seems to clear it right up.  As for underneath your breasts it kind of sounds like a fungal infection or something like yeast.  I would try an anti fungal or yeast cream and see if that works if not go back to the prescription that was helping.  Hope all works well for you and everyhthing clears up.
Take care and GOD BLESS

Pre op this was an issue for me too!  I used to use Zeasorb powder and it usually helped quickly.  And as one of the others said....try to allow air to get to the area as often as possible and keep the area as dry as you can too.  Also thinking about it I used to take a monthly dose of Diflucan for prevention too.

Rabkin asked that his patients start using Dial Antibacterial Body Wash prior to the DS.  Damn if it didn't clear up the rashes I'd had non-stop for YEARSA almost immediately, and it has worked since then.  I use the stuff religiously -- take it with me when I travel, even.  I won't use anything else, and one time Walgreens stopped carrying it for a while and I about had a stroke -- located an online source and bought a case of it.  Fortunately, Walgreens started carrying it again.

I also use baby powder every day and sometimes again before bed if my bits and pieces get moist (if it is hot, or if I exercise in the evenings).

I'm adding that to my shopping list.  Thanks!

Edited to Add:

I have a small sample of the Dial Clean & Refresh Antibacterial Body Wash with Moisturizers for Long Lasting Freshness, in the Spring Water Scent.  Will that help/is it the same thing?  It also comes in Tropical Escape, Mountain Fresh, and Lavender Jasmine, I noted on the Dial website.

Maybe you're talking about an older version?

What about the soap version, or maybe not, because it has waxes..?

Someone at my house went to the ER months ago and had to stay for awhile; this was in the samples that were brought home.  It smells great.

Yup, that's the stuff, with Triclosan.  It is the stuff that's available at Walgreens, and comes in a few different scents.

I had a $1 off coupon for the body wash, and it happened to be on sale, 2/$7, so I bought a couple this morning, and tried it.  It's clearing up nicely, and no ooze!  The cheesecloth is still in place, but the redness under the left one is disappearing, too!
