Why do I have sandpaper tongue? And why does my breath taste so funky?
I would call the Dr. but it is Sunday, and I wanted to know if anyone here knew. I don't know if it is a side effect of a med, or just a DS side effect that I didn't know anything about? My tongue feels so rough, and NOTHING is appetizing or tastes good. I have this funky taste in my mouth, but not like a normal bad breath taste, and not quite fruity either. It is just kind of this funkish sweet smell. Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like it could be ketosis. About the only thing you can do is keep drinking your water. Try water with a little lemon or lime, and Splenda to taste. When I was going through ketosis it was like an aluminum foil taste for all but a few things. Chocolate flavors never let me down nor diet cranberry juice.

I got nothing to offer about the tongue -- except to keep drinking.
No appetite or craving for anything is perfectly normal, but do nourish your body whether you feel like it or not. Taste is a very common phenomena. Some like things they never did and some lose the taste for what was once a favorite food.
The goofy taste in your mouth is you entering the world of ketosis. You may taste a metallic taste from time to time, too. Ketosis is your body not getting enough instant energy to burn (carbs), so it turns to your fat cells and burns them for energy. This is a good thing, but drinking more will flush out the ketones, the byproduct of ketosis that is making everything taste funny.
You need to give yourself 64oz of fluids (NO FAIL) and are aiming for 30g of protein your first month post op.

Sounds normal to me I have the same thing going on and just assume its my body in ketosis. Try to keep drinking and eating what you are supposed to so you can continue to heal. I dont know what to do about the funky breath I feel like I am constantly brushing my teeth. I finally went and bought some breath mints and they help a little. Good luck and this too shall pass. take care.

Nope, no white, anywhere in my mouth. I just had a banana with peanut butter on each bite, and literally it felt like there was sand in the peanut butter. This is just so wierd. The texture of every single thing I eat is way off. The only thing no affected, is clear liquids.
