Considering a second sleeve

I've only lost 90-95 lbs and I'm 15 months out.  I'm considering a resleeve...yep it's true.

Do any of you know if Medicare will pay for a second sleeve?  I can't find the info under Medicare.gov.  Can somebody help?

I talked with a nurse and she said Medicare only pays ONCE.  So am I screwed?

oh No Betty. So how would that work if you could get it. Just redo the sleeve you have or cut it smaller or what is involved? I wish you the very best. I do hope it works for you if that is what you want. You are a trooper.

I'm almost sure Medicare won't pay for it and I will have to get a loan...

I assume they will make my tummy smaller...I know it has streatched and I can eat like crazy.

I don't know many details about Medicare, but I would be very surprised if you had a prayer of getting another surgery paid for without provable surgical failure. That would be something like a staple line disruption in an RNY. I don't know if there is such a thing as a surgical failure/malfunction with the DS.

I don't know how tall you are, but going by my own height stats, I'm assuming that 90-95 pounds is at least half of your excess weight, since your BMI is listed on your profile as 54.9. Was that your starting BMI? If that is correct, then by all medical standards, you are a bariatric surgery success. I realize it doesn't feel that way, but that's how it is. There are no guarantees of skinniness with WLS, even with the DS. There are some folks who post on www.duodenalswitch.com who have not lost anywhere near all their excess weight and who must diet carefully in order to maintain what they have lost. Do you post there? You might find some of their input helpful.

You were going to use a website to track your food intake. What have you seen in doing that so far?

I haven't done that yet; however, I will.  I think I'm just so bummed out that Medicare won't pay for it.  I understand from the nurse I talked to today that the sleeve runs about $12,700.  No I don't post on DS.com...I guess I should look at that site.  I read on OH all the time and am just so mad at myself or whatever cause I haven't lost the weight.  When I read about the ones who are trying to keep weight on I can't even imagine it.

Seriously, I'm 5'3" and weigh almost 250 and that ain't too cute to say the least.  No, I don't think that 90-95 lbs is half of my excess weight.  I can eat like a horse.  I honestly try very hard to stay within the 50-100 range on carbs.  Usually in the 60 range.  Every now and again I'll have a donut or something...I mean that is truly the exception rather than the rule.

I have to admit I don't exercise and I dread beginning...ugh!  I'm so out of shape and I just don't seem to have the energy to want to do it.  Wa, wa, wa.

(Edited because I can't read for comprehension. ARGH.)

Yup, according to the BMI calculator I use, another 90 pounds would put you in the normal BMI range, so yes, you've lost half your excess weight.

You say you're eating around 60 grams of carbs a day. Hmm. I have trouble believing that. Do you routinely have something like these menus for carbs each day?

8 oz. milk
1 slice plain bread
1/2 c. cooked carrots
6 oz. yogurt

2/3 c. oatmeal
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. corn
1/2 c. peas
1/3 c. rice

1/2 bagel
6 oz. yogurt
1/2 c. lentils
2 pieces of potato the size of a small egg each

Really and truly? What else do you eat, then, that leaves you saying that you eat like a horse?

How much protein are you eating each day? Are you SURE you're eating that much protein? Do you sometimes weigh and measure your serving sizes to keep yourself honest?

I think it's time for you to spend some time really measuring and tracking your food. I get the feeling that your intake isn't balanced quite like you think it is.

When did you last have labs done?

You knew this when you signed on for the DS. Now it is time to face the music. If you want to a)lose more weight and b)not get malnutrition, you will change what you are eating. That's the bottom line. There's no way around it. You were here for a long time and got a lot of education before your surgery. Now, are you going to implement that knowledge or not?

My first thought was to tell you what you could do with your bad self then I decided not to for the sake of the forum.

No I don't eat bagels, lentils, yogurt or rice.  I don't drink milk.  Oatmeal gags ,me.  Where did you get that list from an RNYer?

Like I said I will begin tracking my food tomorrow.  I need to go and set up my account with the daily plate or one of the trakcing sites.

I will also go to the DS.com forum and read, too.

I apprecite your help.  My labs are fine.  I passed my iron with flying colors which is finally within the range...in fact over where it needs to be.  My D is great.  All that is now under control.

Off to set up my tracking.  Do you exercise?

Nope, I was giving you some random examples of 50-60 grams of carbs per day.

If you are eating steak and salad, that's good. You are not eating like a horse.

Now, since you don't like hearing what I have to say, I will do what I should have done some time ago when I first got irritated at your sudden ignorance and block you. Good luck finding a surgeon to "resleeve" you, since you believe that is what you need.

OK, I see what you were trying to say (I thought maybe you found a WDYET post that you were copying at first!) -- but I have another question.  These are EACH 50 g of carbs?  Or each of the three sets of items is 50 g of carbs?  Because unless my (admittedly not in tune with any carb counters other than my eyeball and vague knowledged of carb counts) judgment is entirely off, those items TOGETHER are a boatload of carbs, not 50 g total!
