Stinky Gas post DS

Red, do you think that your long common channel might be one of the reasons why you've been free of those issues? I realize that every person's body reacts to this surgery differently, but it does seem that Dr. Anthone's patients tend to have fewer bowel issues than the rest of us.

I do not know if the longer CC has anything to do with it or not.  But I suppose that is a possiblity.  Now if I eat something with sugar alchohols all bets are off, but I did not tolerate the sugar alchohols as a pre-op either.

Those things are evil!! I couldn't tolerate sugar alcohols pre-op either. I haven't had the courage to even try them post-op. I read labels very carefully once I learned what they did to me!

Hi, Anna. Nice picture, baby!

I'll just chime in: I have not taken probiotics yet and do not have gas issues, either. My common channel is 100. Rabkin was my surgeon. Before my DS, I was a major farter!

I know an Anthone patient who says she has to be on probiotics because her gas is pretty bad. I think it goes back to the original "your mileage may vary" issue.

Whom did you hear this from?

What surgery have you or are you having?

JW cause I will be 2 yrs out in July and unless I eat a high carb feast I don't have a problem.
It is all about the food intake on what the out put will be.

I read about it here.  I am preop and planning to have RNY but considering DS if my insurance will pay.

I have used Devrom from the beginning.....though if it is taken everyday one can build a resistance so I only use it if I am going to travel or be away from home for long....also probiotics are great a must do and also there are air deoderizer sprays that work VERY well.  I purchase m9 spray from Hollister (they are a "ostomy" medical supplier) or from Amazon....it comes in small enough containers that I can easily put it in a pocket or my hand bag.  Also another post told about Ozium (purchase it at a auto parts retailer) and it works very well too....in the home I burn lots of candles in the bathroom as well as just around the house too....they help alot too.  Mainly we learn what foods to avoid or limit with experience as most of this issue for me has been foods....I dont eat much potatoe or pasta and very limited rice or bread.

Gas from my DH and dog is stinky and neither of them have had any type of weight loss surgery.  When I do have gas, I just consider it to be pay back.  You can take Devrom or use a spray if it really bothers you.  I can't speak to the band, but RNY folk can peel the paint off walls along with anyone who has had the DS.  It isn't just us...

Glad to see another DS patient of Dr. Houston. I was beginning to think Houston, Olsen & Dyer didn't do them after looking at their pages on OH with no DS statistics.
