Ferritin vs Transferrin????
Ferritin is your stored iron and you want that to be in the upper end of the normal range. Transferrin is used along with the iron serum levels to determine if you might be in an iron deficiency or iron overload situation.

or to put it another way, it shows the degree that iron is being pulled from your body stores (note the "trans" part of the name) to maintain or attempt to maintain blood iron levels. This gives an indication of how deficient your iron intake is. I notice that some surgeons require it as part of their annual blood test panel, and some (like Rabkin and Kesh.) don't.
