getting guff about higher fat foods

Is your friend named Karen?  Because I just had this convo with a co-worker of mine last week.    She had the RNY.

I was explaining to another co-worker that I, as a DSer, don't absorb all of the fat I eat, only like 20%, so most fatty foods are like diet foods for me.  That's why I get bacon and cheese eggs every morning.

Well, Karen butts in and says that I will have to watch that because eventually I will start absorbing all of the fat again.  I told her WRONG, I know my malabsorbtion will lessen, but it will never be completely gone.  Then she tells me that my surgery is too new for them to know for sure.

I asked her where she got her info.  She had no answer.  She never even heard of the DS before I told her about it and now she's an expert.

YOU know how you surgery works and that's what's important.  Keep enjoying your Baconators!!

Wow, she must be a supergenius!    I love those people who are insta-experts on stuff they have no idea about.

When I go to BK I order 5  of those thin, small patties they call burgers  (no buns b/c it's too filling).  I eat 2 1/2 and take the others back & finish them in a couple of hours.   This lets me get in a good amount of protein.

Oh, and I also order  a medium fries.

That's how we roll....

Hoping to.

I'm looking forward to seeing you, too, & how you're doing almost 2 months in.

Smile and nod.  And then while you're losing, and then later when you're at goal, laugh your ass off as you eat one Baconator in front of her EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!!  Like AA said, it's just how we roll!!!

YUM ... That's health food for us!

Tell her to do some research and then get back to you.

My personal favorite is the 1/2 lb. double ... mayo mustard lettuce onion pickle.   I used to not eat any roll and now I eat the bottom only.   That sucker has 47 gr. protein!

Add to that a small chili for another 14 gr for a total of 61 gr!!

You just can't beat that ... you have fiber carbs from the beans but hey!

Enjoy that BACONATOR !!!

Ignorance is the answer here.
Feel free to laugh all the way to the scale, my dear.

She doesn't know what she's talking about. You have different guts than she does now, therefore you have different nutritional needs. On the rare occasion that I encounter someone who dares to yip at me about what I'm eating (other than asking questions out of curiousity, that is--I'm happen to explain stuff to anyone), that's what I tell them. "My innards are different from yours and so are my nutritional needs."

If I were in your shoes and she didn't get the message after being told that, my next response would be along the lines of either, "Let me know when you get your MD and specialize in post bariatric surgery nutrition," or simply, "It's time for you to take your fount of wisdom somewhere else."

I have lost 80 lbs eating double cheeseburgers, ordering extra mayo, butter and sour cream and never, never, ever asking for my ranch dressing on the side.  Laugh at her, and keep laughing
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.
