Back from the Brink
I finally made it home this weekend..... 4 + weeks in the hospital, and another week or so at my brothers house (OK, that was a good part)..... and finally, my own home!!!!!!!
I wound up with jaundice, no pain, no fever..... got admitted for a gall bladder work up, had surgery, it started out lap and went into open, and then...... a week of crashing and burning. Wound up on dialysis, no kidney working, with liver shutting down, etc, etc..... I don't remember most of this..... Thank God for Lynn Bee and our family..... and my friend, Kate.... they kept on top of all the different docs that were in and out..... TPN, shunts, PIC lines, drains, etc...... after the second surgery, it was found my bowels had been nicked and I was septic.... (still, no fever, but a white count of 30,000).....
I'm on the mend now..... home, but showering and dressing seems to be a monumental task...... I got rid of all the lines, tubes, etc except for a wound vac connected to the abdomen.... they say it will help the incision heal faster.... the last IV line came out Friday.
I'm working on getting enough protein in, to make sure I heal.... but food is about the lowest priority in my head..... I'll keep trying.... Again, thanks for the positive thoughts and wishes!

Wow Mary, I'm so sorry you had such a difficult time; it's good to hear that you're doing better and are now home.
I can't imagine how tired you must feel from taking a shower and dressing; when I got home I would have to just set and rest a couple of times to get showered and dressed and I didn't anywhere near that many complications.
So glad you're doing well now,
Kerry

Mary, wow, sweetie, you have been through the mill! I can imagine how happy you are to be home. I'm beting that will give you a real shot in the arm. Hopefully you had a lot of protein built up that you can go a little while without it, but don't forget the fluids! Take care
,
I will be anxiously awating your next post. -Jenny

Who knew a gall bladder could almost kill ya? If I'm allowed to drive by next week, I'm going to try to make the NYC lunch.... I'm stir crazy and bored, but can only stay awake about 5 hours at a time.... so if I time it right!! Maybe.... I look like crap, but, oh well, I may show up and scare you all! Mary C
I'm glad you're back at home. I was so concerned when Lynn wrote of your troubles. How did things go so badly south so quickly? I hope this is the end of your troubles for a while and that you're on your way back to great health.
