I was so out of it.  really didn't care abou****ching tv or books...that would be nice for your supporter.  Atlanta  Medical do NOT have internet connection in the rooms.  My room was comfortable, but you may need a fan.  Bring a big robe, so you will be cute as you walk the floor.

Here is a list of what most hospitals recommend that patients bring:

- Travel-sized personal toiletries, including any special toileting items (don't want to use hospital's stuff)
- Robe and slippers (some hospitals provide non-slip sox at admission)
- Your cane or walker, if you use one
- Your night-time breathing equipment, including CPAP and BiPAP
- Any adaptive equipment
- Loose-fitting clothes to wear home (WLS may cause swelly belly)

What patients should leave at home:
- Valuables (money, billfold/wallet, purse, credit cards, jewelry)
- Medications (unless your doctor asks you to bring them.  The hospital will administer your medication.)

Here is what others have brought to hospitals:
- Lip balm or ointment to spread onto lips
- Eye mask
- Ear plugs (to block out hospital noises unless you request that the door be closed at all times)
- Back scratcher
- Laptop computers and chargers (if allowed)
- Cell phones and chargers (if allowed)
- Spiral notebook and a couple of pens (in case ink runs out in one pen) to journal your hospital stay (if you feel like it during your stay)

Hospitals will provide gowns and can change them daily or as needed (especially if you get any goop on your gown at any time).  It may be a good idea to leave your PJ or nightgown at home, as sometimes the fluid will ooze out of your incision and it would be gucky.  PJ bottoms may or may not be provided by the hospital to be worn while walking the halls, but go ahead and bring your own just in case.

No need to bring underwear, except to wear home if you want.  You won't be wearing them at all during your stay.

Check with your hospital.
And, don't forget to bring YOURSELF!

Here is the list of bariatric groceries that was prepared by my dietician:

Purchase before surgery
Have the following at your home:

protein powders
ingredients for smoothies
ice cube trays
4 oz. plastic containers (Gladware or others)

Food and beverages to choose from:
iced tea
herbal tea
sugar-free Crystal Light
sugar-free Kool Aid
sugar-free Jello mix (box)
sugar-free pudding mix (box)

Hope this helps!

Vicki

I jsut had surgery on the 19th and the only thing I used were;
robe
chapstick
toothbrush
toothpaste
shampoo and conditioner
brush
wet wipes
bottom buddy (to wipe my butt as I did not want a male nurse wiping my ass)
cell phone
magazine
outfit wore to the hospital I wore home from the hospital

Most of the stuff would have been provided by the hospital, but I wanted my own.  It was just a comfort thing.  Good Luck.

I took--

A Book (never read it)
My OWN shampoo & Conditior (I am a snob when it comes to that)
Face Wash
Comb
Hair Mousse (yes, I used it)
My Nintendo DS (played it)

I wore Jammie bottoms and a big t-shirt for the surgery and I wore home the same Jammies, t-shirt and undies I had on prior to surgery.

Nice comfy socks to wear.
Oh... I always always encourage gossip magazines...

I also had travel size bottles filled with my favorite shampoo and conditioner for the hospital. When I got to take my first shower it was so nice having my own stuff. The baby wipes were so soothing once I was discharged and in the hotel and waiting out that first week for my bowels to settle in. I highly recommend them.
