MEDICARE-How many months required for medically supervised diet?

I am on Medicare and there IS a 6 month supervised diet requirement here in NE.  You better check with YOUR state!  From what I understand most are very different.  I just finished it in early April and am now scheduled for June 5th for my surgery.  I didn't however have to have a pre authorization.  My surgeon said that as long as we had all the t's crossed and i's dotted they would accept it.

P.S. I want to send a shout-out to Redhaired (who posted above a few years ago), who also originally explained this to me.

Before I had my surgery I asked my surgeon's office manager if Medicare required a 6 month supervised diet. She said that she was never asked to show proof of one for any of her surgeon's patients. I did go through with the 6 month diet "just in case" but it wasn't needed. I'm in Indiana and my surgeon is Dr. Inman. I had my surgery in January of this year and Medicare paid for most of it. I would get ahold of Medicare and ask,  although they wern't a lot of help when I called them. Do you have a surgeon in mind?
