Thank you, Annie!  I see that Dr. Marceau is one of the listed DS surgeons on the duodenalswitch.com website. I copied this to my blog on my profile, giving credit to this posting.  Hope you don't mind.

WOW! Good find, Anne! What a great study on the long-term DS results! Thank you so much for sharing! I just love that the DS studies keep getting better and better!  I really like the risk of death statistics! Almost equal to the general population for people who used to be at death's door due to obesity is AMAZING!

It's even better in the full text, where they compare the findings with the latest RNY data. Survival rate after DS was higher than that of RNY after 15 years. (92% DS v  88.2% RNY and 83.7% for obese subjects without surgery).

The weight loss after 15 years was spelled out in percentages in the full text:

Weight change with the band at that stage was 13% (+ or - 14%, meaning some people gained back all and then some. After 15 years, weight change with RNY was  27±12%. Here's the kicker:  the weight change was 38.6±10.6% after DS.

To translate this to pounds: If you start out at 250, after 15 years, the average person weighs 218 lbs after the band, 192.5 lbs after RNY, and 155 lbs after DS.  WOOOOO HOOOO!!! Thanks Ann  Full text at http://www.springerlink.com/content/u11438757w123722/

This is awesome, thank you!!  We should keep this as a handout to all those naysayers we encounter along the way!!
