That was great Lori. Thank you!!!

Lap-Band June 14, 2001. Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico.
Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin.  I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby.  5 years out from revision to VSG.  Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(

THANKS so much for your time, effort and the great info in putting this together for us! Sure appreciate YOU!!  By the way...I had a couple of questions I have not been able to find....Since we are to keep carbs down in the wls window...what about the protein bars that have carbs in them...do they offset the good protein in a way that it is ok to use them or should we opt for the lower protein and lower carb content?  Also how much protein should PRE OP take in before surgery?  AND what vit should we begin taking and how long prior to Surgery?  THANKS AGAIN!!! You can have protein bars if you make sure to allow for them in your carb intake.  For instance, if you're keeping your carbs below 50, and your protein bar has 21 grams of carbs, that leaves you with 39 grams of carbs left for the other foods you take in for the day.  I don't think that protein bars are a bad choice, but they can be if you don't make room for them by eliminating other carbs in your day.  Lower protein and lower carb content would be okay, but then you'd be sacrificing the protein....so, it's all in how you work your day out. Protein before surgery is an individual choice.  For optimal results, aiming for 90-100 grams a day would be a great way to boost your system and get a nice start for your protein stores for after surgery.  Protein aides in healing, so if you can up your protein, I say go for it! Dr. Inman says we should take one multivitamin, calcium, and I think she suggested dry A& D as well for the pre-ops.  Call the office tomorrow and push option #2 to talk to the receptionist and ask them to tell you the pre-op vitamin suggestions that Dr. Inman talks about at the pre-op seminar.  If they don't know the answer, they'll know someone that does.  Sorry I can't remember exactly what they said.  As for calcium, you need to get some Calcium Citrate (Citracal at the pharmacy) or you can purchase up-cal D.  Amazon looks like they have a great price on the Upcal D at $10.85 for one canister.  My Mom is supposed to get no less than 2,000 mg of Cal Citrate daily, so I think that would be a good place for you to start too.  (I talked to Vitalady about this a few weeks ago, and I believe she told me that everyone over 40 should be taking at least this much).  Let me know if you think of anything else you need!!! What a GREAT post, Lori.  Thank you so much for doing this.  I already have your profile bookmarked, but now I'll have to add, I don't know, special stars to it in my favorites, or something!  I really appreciate the time you put into writing this.

I've been wanting to do it for awhile and I've had a little extra time these past couple of days being cooped up with the flu.  Blah!  But, I'm glad it helped you!
