First, tell me what the heck it is? I can tell you that my gallbladder and appendix were removed with my DS, but that's all I know of.

Well, Val, this is one of three parts of a  new procedure Dr Husted talks about called Vergito.  But he says this part has been done before.   Here's a quote from his site:

The Third Component: Omentectomy

Omentectomy - removal of the omentum - has the effect of augmenting weight loss through a combination of improving insulin resistance and reducing inflammation. The omentum is the fatty sheet inside the abdomen which drapes over the intestine, and is a major component of organ or "visceral" fat, the type of "belly fat" which is associated with the highest health risk. Removing the omentum not only results in an immediate reduction in belly fat, but in the removal of certain substances produced in the omentum as well, namely, resisten - which contributes to insulin resistance and type II diabetes - and various inflammatory agents known as interleukins. Obesity is, in one sense, an inflammatory condition, and removing the omentum as a source of interleukins reduces the inflammatory response of obesity, especially to the liver during active weight loss. Omentectomy has been added to other weight loss procedures in the past and has been shown to result in better weight loss, when compared to the same procedures performed without omentectomy.

An omenectomy is a removal of the omentum, which is the lining of the abdominal cavity. The ONLY WLS I've ever heard it associated with is the so-called Mini-DS that the freak in Eastern Washington performs.

It is a legitimate surgery that is performed when someone has ovarian cancer, but I have never seen it associate with obesity, outside of the above mentioned.

I'm *really* surprised to see Husted supporting this.

I'm with you on this, BT. Everytime I've heard this mentioned in conjunction with WLS it has equalled bad ju-ju and that Mini-DS. That people have died because the omentum was removed. Perhaps something new on the study front? That when done with a proper DS it doesn't cause the disaster that it does with the Mini-DS? I don't know.

The Omentum is an interesting organ....it releases hormones (or causes them to be released?) and it can "cry out" and make us hungry , falsely.  Look it up- I did sme research pre op on the various websites about it.
