Man, will you parents adopt me?!  Seriously though, if you want the full DS there is (maybe are, I haven't kept track) an excellent surgeon and facility in Mexico where you can get the DS if that's what you want. Don't settle unless you can only have the sleeve for a particular reason. Hugs and good luck, we'll save a spot on the loser bench. Nancy

Good for you.  Making the decision and committing is the hardest part, it's plain sailing from here.  Lots of luck to you with your surgery.  You'll be a different person next Christmas.

Would you mind sharing why you've chosen just the sleeve?  Also, did your chosen surgeon say why he only does the sleeve?  I understand the peace in having made a decision, but I'm just curious about your process of research.  It's my understanding that the DS is the most effective WLS, espcially for very high BMI patients.  DH:  "unless he can lose along with me. . ."  Well, unless he's in that microscopic and magic 5% of non-surgical weight loss people, to lose and maintain is almost a dream.

Woo Hoo and I have to ask why go half way? Have you seen the results with just the sleeve?

Congratulations Lisa -- What incredible, giving, wonderful parents you have!  You are blessed!  I know you've done a lot of research... so I'm wondering why you choose the sleeve only?  Since you are not a lightweight and have a lot to lose.  Do you have other malabsorption issues that prevent you from getting the DS?  (Many people report that having the sleeve and bypass done separately doesn't have the same powerful 'synergystic' effect as the whole DS.) You can have the entire DS done for about the same price... so I'm just curious why you choose the sleeve.

Yeah, you got me with that title. Congrats, Lisa! That is just wonderful news. I think the sleeve is a great surgery, even if the results are not as dramatic or long-lasting as DS. It's still a very safe and, as far as WLS goes, a very natural way to take the weight off. It will just be up to you to keep it off, and I know you'll do well.

Keep us posted on your progress!

Hi!!

IIve been gone for awhile but i am so glad to meet you!!  just wanted to write you with the hopes that maybe my story would encourage you. My BMI was very close to yours when I had surgery in May. I only could have the gastric sleeve at that time because they did it lap and the ports would not reach to do the switch part. I am 7 months out and have lost 127lbs so far with just the sleeve and am still losing. My life is awesome. I can move, play, shop, fly and do about anything I want to do. If you want to take a look at my profile when you get a chance. I started at 422lbs and am now downto 295. I am having the other half of the surgery for many reasons some are more financial than physical (ie insurance requirements). Congrats on your upcoming surgery and I am so happy for you and your new life that awaits you. Hugs-Amy

"Im going with Dr. Joya in Mexico for the Sleeve. I kinda wish he did the entire DS, I would do that....but he doesnt. So, the Sleeve will do at least for now."

Um....HOLD THE BUS!!!! WHY are you going to Mexico as a self-pay and only getting HALF of what you want? There are surgeons in Mexico that will do the whole DS for you. If not Dr. Ungson, then Dr. Huarez (sp?) for instance. What gives? I agree that you need the whole DS, especially with your BMI. You are self-pay, get what you WANT for your money!
