The decision is over...done with.  My parents have consented to pay for my surgery in Mexico!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited, I can barely contain myself. Finally, the decision is over....no more wondering what to do...no more 2nd thoughts, or wondering if Im doing the right thing. Im going with Dr. Joya in Mexico for the Sleeve. I kinda wish he did the entire DS, I would do that....but he doesnt. So, the Sleeve will do at least for now. Im hoping and praying I dont need the additional surgery down the line. Im going to work hard on that.  Thank you all for such great support and helping me to make the right decision for me. This has been soooooo hard. Im going to work on getting my and my husbands  passports. I wont be able to get the surgery til Spring Break which is in March I believe...so I will have to wait. But waiting isnt hard...in the meantime, Im giong to start preparing. After Christmas, Im going to get started going back to the Gym and work on eating better.... Gosh, Im so excited....so nervous...a brand new nervous....to think Im actually going to get on a plane....Yikes.....I see a visit to my Internist for some Valium soon lol Its going to be so hard to wait...but I dont have a choice on that. If I didnt have to get passports, I guess I could have it now..But Ive only got until Jan 14 when hubby goes back to school...for his last semester of Nursing school....Yeah!!! Its been a long road for him and all of us...but its almost over. I kinda see this surgery in his future as well... He's 5'7" and over 300 lbs...unless he can lose along with me, which I know he can (if he will commit to it)...he will be needing it too.  Ok, this has been long-winded....thanks for reading this far.. I bet ya thought this was another negative post when you saw the title, huh?  LOL.......that was intentional  hehehe

Lisa, Congratulations. I don't know your history and whether you have good reasons for choosing the Sleeve versus the full DS right off the bat, but there is a DS surgeon in Mexico that I believe many have had experience with. I am sure they will chime in soon - I don't recall the name. You could go to duodenalswitch.com and it is probably listed there. If it were me, I would do the whole thing at once, but like I said I don't know your history and/or reasons.  Congratulations and that time will be here before you know it. If you need meds to help you get there, don't be afraid to ask for them. Heidi

I thought this was going to be a "I can't have surgery post" or "goodbye DS board" too! I am very glad that the parents decided to help. I would also recommend you posting here about the Gastric Sleeve and if anyone has had it then had to have another surgery to get to goal. I am very happy for you, but now research the sleeve vs the full DS. I know that our "Pay it Forward" LeaAnn had her DS surgery in Mexico.  Again, congratulations! Dianne from FL

With the DS: there is no stoma, so no stoma strictures; there are no limitations (other than volume) against drinking before, during or after meals; 80% of ingested fat is malabsorbed; 98.9% of type II diabetics are CURED of this devastating disease, with data showing stable cure over 10 years out; there is the best average weight loss and most durable (average 76% excess weight loss going out 10 years) of all of the bariatric surgeries.  That's why I had a DS!

thank you all. This is the best Christmas present ever.  It took me a long time of researching to decide on the Sleeve and where to have it. Ive read so much on both surgeries...my head is still spinning from it. But I know ive made the right choice.  I did look into the Mexican doc that does DS...but in the end, decided on the Sleeve alone. If I need to have the DS done later on, I know that I will be able to.

I am sooo happy for you. I was going to tell you that Dr. Ungson will do the whole DS but someone else already did. The important thing is you researched and you are choosing what you feel is right for you. I applaud you dear lady and wish you nothing short of the very VERY best.
