Party Update

Had a luncheon for the new Pastor and his family on Sunday. Had 29 out of 40 people say they were coming, had 18 people actually show up...we're up to our necks in pulled pork barbeque, cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, broccoli salad and fruit salad. The food was really good, just way too much! We were on the back deck and everyone was eating. There was a gently breeze and all of a sudden we were awash in dandelion fluff!! It looked like we were in a snow globe!! Hysterical! Today I am exhausted, very sore and very gassy!! I did enjoy several folks who I did not know very well before and was pleased that the Pastor's children got along really well with my son and some other kids (they spoke the universal language of video games!!) I am glad it is done!!

I am glad it went well for you. I love the sound of your menu. I think I will have to go see if I still have some boston butt in the freezer! Yum-Yum. Red

McCormack's makes a seasoning package for Slow Cooker Pulled Pork that is fab! Add a 3 pound pork shoulder, some ketchup, brown sugar and vinegar to the crock and let it cook for 6-8 hours. DO NOT LIFT THE LID! The steam circulates and when you finally pull the pork out, it literally shreds itself. Pork shoulder is cheaper here than hamburger ($1.69 vs $2.49 per pound) and you can serve about 10 people with a 3 pound pork barbeque, but only about 6-7 with 3 pounds of hamburger. (I make big burgers and estimate for shrinkage). Throw on a can of baked beans, get some slaw (I make mine, pre-shred slaw with butter pickle juice, mayo, cider vinegar and sugar to taste, add celery seed and let sit 24 hours), potato salad and you've got a barbeque. Caution...pulled pork is yummy, but it gave me monster gas, so pop some Gas-X along the way.

Denise- It sounds like it turned out great. A group of 18 sounds just about right, 29 might have been a bit too many for me! Now that menu has sent me to the frig. for some dinner (crab salad). It made me hungry just reading pulled pork, I love it and I wonder how it will taste now that I am post-op? I am sorry you are sore, but I bet you are also proud of the lovely day you provided to everyone! Valerie

Yea! Glad everything went well for you. It sounds like you had a good time. I like having leftovers from a party -- not too much... but you know for sure that you made enough for everyone. (I have an ex-SIL who would make 1 piece of chicken for each guest, figure 1 cup of salad and 1 slice of dessert -- never did she every have enough -- most of the time you'd leave her house hungry!)... anywho! Glad it's over and you can rest now! Lola

I'm so glad it went well and you had a good time. I'm sure it was appreciated by your new Pastor and his family. I absolutely love your menu and would dearly love to be in your neighborhood. It's nice you got to know some other people a little better, too. It sounds like you're a North Carolina girl way back. Are you? Whatever, I'm glad it all turned out well. I hope you remember this the next time and don't stress so much again. You're great!
