Topic: Anyone else on Bydureon???

I'm going on 2 months and losing 1 pound a week. I have not had any bad side effects. Anyone else on here using Bydureon for their Diabetes? It has also helped my A1C go down from 7.9 to 6.9. I do worry about the long term effects but currently considering WLS and hopefully won't need any diabetes medication anymore...wishful thinking??

Topic: Is diabetics controllable?

Hello guys,

I am bit confused about diabetics. Not sure about this one. My mom is suffering over 2 years. I am still confused that it's possible to control? Please let me know.

Thanks!

Topic: RE: How can I control my diabetics?

This is a good question. I am new and fairly confused about this topic I must say. The most important thing for me now is to know what is the normal blood sugar level. My friend uses this blood glucose levels chart. I am quite skeptical about these apps. Anyone with some other suggestion? Thanks a lot in advance.

Topic: Psych Eval - Diabetes

Good morning!

I'm preop, and had my Psych Eval last night, and it was so frustrating! He ended the meeting by saying, he wouldn't note it in the report, and wouldn't impede me from moving forward, but he had great concerns because my diabetes isn't well controlled. I work with my pcp, I take my medicines, it's just a work in progress.

Diabetes control is my main motivator for surgery, and I felt attacked without being heard. This is a 15 year decision in the making - I was approved 15 years ago and decided not to move forward. I now feel the maturity, ability to commit, and a worthiness of a longer life makes it the right time for me.

I just felt like my character was being questioned because my diabetes isn't perfect yet. Just venting, but glad it's off the list :)

Topic: ?? Healing ??

Do to being diabetic did anyone have trouble healing? All my incision healed in no time of all except my largest incision. My blood sugars are not higher than 140. Most of the time it's below 100. My largest incision was almost healed and then started draining. Has anyone else dealt with this? I had surgery this past Friday to have them clean up the infection and put a drain in. I read online that diabetics even with sugar under control can have slow healing. Just wondering how many have had this issue or something like that?

Topic: RE: Type Two and Complications

I'm 28 years old, been diagnosed diabetic for 6 years (2 years prior they just said I was pre diabetic but never did blood tests) I was a yoyo, eat healthy and lose weight to put whatever in my mouth and gain it all back and more. No one ever discussed weight loss surgery until my current doctor, the first day I met him he mentioned doing weight loss surgery. I of course was completely against it until my 3rd visit with him and he showed me he wasnt messing around by starting me on insulin. I was devastated. My a1c when diagnosed was 9.8, before surgery it was 6.4, I was on 14 units of lantus at night along with all my oral meds. I am now 7 days post op off all oral meds and only take sliding scale of novolg 4 times a day as needed (which hasnt been very often)

Topic: RE: What was your a1c before WLS?

My January A1C was 9.2 my August one was 5.5 I don't get my next A1****il November. I was never told anything about what my A1C had to at before surgery. I was taking Novolog 30 units 3 times a day with meals. I also was taken Novolin N 55 units in morning and 30 units at night. I came home taken 30 units of Novolog at meals again and Lantus 10 units a day. I currently am 10 days post-op and now am taken only Novolog 15 units in morning only.

I hope your Dr. can get your sugars under control. I am 10 days post-op and so far my diabetes are doing good. I was on Novolin N 55 units in morning and 30 units at night, and Novolog 30 units at meals before surgery. Came home prescribed Lantus 10 units and Novolog 30 units at meals. I am now taking only 15 units of Novolog in the morning only. My sugars are mostly under 100, highest since surgery was 122. I know the feeling of ignoring your diabetes I did that for a couple years or so and decided last year I wanted to get everything straightened out. Besides going to my PCP I also started going to a Endocronoligist (spelled wrong). She has gotten my A1C from around 11 to 5.5 and I started loosing weight and decided on Gastric Bypass. I hope everything straightens out for you Good luck.

Topic: RE: Type 1 and I'm STARVING

Hi Terry,

Wow, you are so lucky that you didn't have to do any pre-op dieting. I've been getting barely any carbs since May, fell off the wagon a few times, but got right back on. I was scheduled to have surgery this coming October 6th and just was told this morning because I didn't comply to the 30 day pre-op diet of 30g carb/day that I would have to reschedule. I live in FL and just went through Irma this past weekend and yes, my nerves and hunger got to me because my adrenaline was pumping. I went to my apt this morning and told them that I had had ice cream and some bread, they cancelled me on the spot! I was devastated! I don't think anyone really understands what it's like to be a type 1. Sure, I can reschedule for next month but juggling my work and family schedule is going to be so difficult.

I'm so glad that you wrote on here. I'm always looking for other Type I's who "get it". Just wish there were more.
