I was just recently told I need to get my A1C level down. It is 10.2 as of last month. They said it is because such high levels will prevent healing after surgery. So I am working like crazy for the next few months to get them down so I can have surgery. I'm soooooo tired of being diabetic. Hope this helps.
So I met with my surgeon and upon review of my lab work he has informed me that he is going to postpone surgery until I can get the level down. This is the whole reason for the surgery!! I have been to 2 endocrinologist all of whom recommended this surgery and now a delay? Has anyone else had a delay because of their levels?
Funny, I am on the Omnipod also, and am in the precert process for probable RNY. My main fear also is how to treat lows without dumping. Any advice?? Thanks!!

Diabetes is a very common disease, which, if not treated, can be very dangerous. There are two types of diabetes. They were once called juvenile-onset diabetes and adult diabetes. However, today we know that all ages can get both types so they are simply called type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
I had the sleeve mainly to improve diabetes, type II. I am 5 months post op and down 66 lbs. I still have 45 to go. I was on mega doses of insulin 4 times a day, 150 plus units a day to be precise. I had been on insulin for 2 years and gained 25 lbs and I knew I had to do something. Now I take 30 units before I go to bed. The endo says there is a good chance that I will get off of it in the near future with more weight loss.
have you researched the sleeve? It is not as invasive as RNY and you do not have dumping. You absorb more nutrients from what you eat. May be worth looking into or talking to your doctor about.
Best of luck to you.
Almond milk is a great subsitute for cows milk and it does not have the lactose milk sugar in it. Lower in carbs and calories than cows milk.
I use Unjury brand protein powder. As far as I recall the nutritional stats are wayyy better than Glucerna and tastes pretty good.
