I became a gestational diabetic 6 years ago, insulin dependent in my pregnancies. My diabetes was worse than what I realized too which is why I ended up on the insulin in the hospital and now. My numbers have been doing much better though which is a blessing. I'm hoping as I drop more weight the diabetes will be totally gone.

how long are you a diabetic, I was told if your  a diabetic more than 10 years or on insulin more than 2 years , chances are it will improve but meds will still be needed

I had vsg 4 weeks ago and im off insulin and Byetta ,only on 2000 metiformin and was told when I lose more weight I might not need them, I am eating 600-700 Cal a day 65-80 gm protein, my blood sugar has been betwwen 80 and 138 since surgery

I also eat fruit besides protein

Topic: Still a diabetic...

2 weeks post-op and I am still a diabetic. Though my diabetes has improved, I still have it and I find myself slipping into a depression. I am insulin dependent and that has me seriously bummed out. At this point I'm taking 40 units of Lantis every morning and for the most part that's all that I need as long as I'm just drinking my protein shakes. The problem is I don't want to just be drinking protein shakes forever...but I don't want to be on more insulin either. The whole thing is a bummer. Of course I had the surgery for weight loss but it was also for diabetes loss as well...and it isn't gone...

Topic: RE: type 2 blood sugar a little high in morning
I have had diagnosed diabetes for 15 yrs. was on insulin for 2 yrs at time of surgery. Also 2 metforin a day. I was taking 4 shots a day and 2000 metforin. Right after surgery I was about 120 so took no meds per my endo. As time went on it got higher and higher. You know that first month we eat no carbs at all except what may be in broth or skim milk which I hardly never drank. Long story short I am 9 months out down 82 lbs and still on 2 shots of insulin a day but a lot less units plus the metforin. At my last endo visit she said it is probably not going to work for me like all the good stories you here on this site. My A1C is still 8.2 so she will probably increase insulin again. I can not exercise so this has a lot to do with it also and at this time the CARB monster is back again.

Yours is a lot lower than mine was at a month. I was up in the 190's at that point and that is when she started me on insulin again. Best of luck to you. Please let me know how you are doing.

Topic: RE: diabetic neuropathy

My grandfather also has diabetic neuropathy, he just got to know about 7 months ago. His feet would burn, but now he is alright, he regularly massages with some oil, and the burning sensation cessed. i will reply you again about what oil he uses on the feet.

I was told to eat 1/2 a fruit if I got a headache or low blood sugar , stopped taking my byetta and watched my blood sugar extra carefully , my insulin stayed the same (slow acting) till my clear liquid I stopped taking it then and never used any since

I am 4 weeks out and am off of my insulin and byetta since my surgery only taking metaformin 2 times a day

my evening sugar 2 hours after eating is 90-110, but my morning fasting bloods sugar runs 118-138

seems when I eat less carbs my sugar goes up

im seeing my endocrinologist this week   but is this normal after the sleeve

ps I have been diabetic over 12 years and on insulin about 2 years and was told it probably will not go away completely with my vsg

Congrats! I hope you continue to do well. My cholesterol is still higher but very well managed. I don't eat hardly any wheat. My pouch can't tolerate it.
