Thankyou!  that is more information than I've had from my doctor on this matter.  At least I am not totally crazy.  MAybe that is also why I am so hungry during that time too!

I absolutely have a link between my diabetes and my TOM, although mine goes up during my cycle.  I have spoken to my endo about it, and he said that the stress to your system during your TOM can cause crazy things to happen with your blood sugar.

My pre-surgery diet was very easy. Include protein in all meals.  Start the protein shake at least once a day.  Increase fruit and vegetable servings.  Limit carbs.  Limit or avoid sweets and snack foods.  Limit fats.  Increase fluid intake..  This diet was for two weeks.  The day before the surgery was pure liquids.  So that consisted of soups, sugar free ice pops, water, tea and broths.

It has been 84 days since my surgery and I have lost 50 lbs.  I am halfway to my goal.  It has been at least 10 years since I weighed this.

Topic: glucotrol XL nasty side effect...preop problem
Hi again...I posted the other day, but wanted to make a new post for people to see since it's *kind of* a different issue.

Anyway I'm on this glucotrol XL. I haven't really had too many side effects, but one really disgusting one and if anyone has tips on how to make it go away I will love you for life.

I have gotten some pretty bad gas from it...that's not even the bad part. The bad part is when I burp, which is now often, all I taste is rotten eggs. I was dry heaving yesterday and the day before from it. Please tell me someone else has had this problem with this med or a similar med and you know the cure. Or even tell me it will go away. I've been sick all day from the taste and smell...my burps smell worse than regular gas if you get my drift. TMI maybe? Anyway I can't take it...please help!

I carry food I can eat to help with this.  I did not have this issue until 4 months after the lap band was place but I kow that some things work better for me.  Fruit or wheat crackers are great, low sugar/ no sugar added grape juice works too.  I also will keep unsweetened appplesauce in the house and carry some higher protein granola bars that work well too.  I usually catch it before I am too far below 70 though.
I guess there could be some issues with some of these that I am not aware of, if you have bypass.
I was only receintly diagnosed so I am very new to all this.   I know my NUT was a big help when this all started.

Hope you find something that works well for you!!

Topic: Question about blood sugar and TOM
I am very new to all this.  In February we discovered I have reactive hypoglysemia.  Some times the meals I plan are great.  at other times two hours after the same meal I am below 70 which is low for me since I begin to have trouble functioning (decisions are very hard at times)

I track my food and have not found a link yet.  I had the lap band, not that that should matter.

My question is can there be a link to blood sugar levels and menstral cycle.  I my dad is diabetic so much of this is not totally new but he really did not have this concern so he can't help me with this one .  (truthfully would never ask him this since he thinks of me as his little girls still.)

My PCP is a little baffeled too so I thought I would ask here.

Thanks,
Michele S.

I am more of a newbie than you however I still have high sugars.  My blood test was 8.5 A1c (post op).  My stay in the hospital I was given insulin cause my sugar was running high.  I am hoping for full remission so I will continue to do the right thing and continue to take care of myself.  In time sunshine, we did not create this over night
I pray to always remember newbies

If you need milk with fewer carbs/sugar, look for Hood Calorie Countdown milk, It has only 3g total carbs per cup, as compared to the 12g per cup of regular milk. It's not sold in gallon jugs, but is usually with the other cardboard carts on milk (near the Lactaid milk and such). It comes in skim (green carton) and 2% (blue carton).
