Has anyone here had surgery with Chronic Kidney Disease? A few years ago I had some problems with it, but they took me off of all NSAIDS and my levels improved to a Stage 2; and fairly normal for my age. They drew pre-op labs last week, and my Kidneys are at 42%, Stage 3 of CKD. My BUN and Creatinine levels are out of range. I just can't believe this. I am a long time Diabetic, so I guess it's from that. Do you think that I can still have the surgery? My appointment for my physical, psych and to schedule surgery is this Thursday.

I owed it to myself to research the Duodenal Switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you. Check out: DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.

Well, it's been 2 weeks and I'm still waiting for my eyesight to come back. I go back to school on June 1st, so I'll have to get new glasses the weekend before if my sight doesn't improve...:(((

Sorry I forgot in my last post - I was taking 850 milligrams 3 times a day - so down to nothing and having my sugars this low - well for me - it's successful so far !!

That is the same reason I had the surgery - it's to soon for me to tell you I'm rid of it . I had the surgery April 12, 2009 and saw my primary a week later - we both agreed to discontinue my meds - because they were making me feel so ill ! We agreed that I would check my sugars every day - and so far they have usually been about 120 - 140, 180 a couple of times but it's been after exercising. So it's not cured but I'm off the meds for now !! My primary anticipates I'll be off for good - I hope so !!

Hi I did experience that but not with the WLS - after I was diagnosed and started the meds - all of sudden everything was blurry - I was like does everyone else see that hazyness ? It did take a couple of weeks - was kind of scary ! - but got better ! Good luck !

Yup, it was laparoscopic. I was back to work full time (desk job) in 2 weeks without a problem (including about a 40-minute drive each way).
Before surgery, I was on 2 different oral meds for my type 2, including being on the max dose for metformin. My fasting glucose the morning of surgery was in the 180s. I now take 1000mg metformin (down from 2500mg before surgery) and have discontinued the second oral med, and my fasting level at my last appointment was 90-something. Both my PCP and bariatric nurse are confident I will be off the metformin in the near future.
