Topic: RE: Type 1 diabetes-using the insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor!
Just incase someone new to diabetes is reading this. I'm guessng that your taking about 30 units a day, not 30 cc. 1cc =100 units
I was taking about an avg of 130-140 units a day and now its about 38 a day. Not too bad and I'm 7 weeks post op now

Throid is not part of the Comp. Metabolic Panel. It's separate, so unless your doc ordered a thyroid panel, or at least TSH, you won't know. Make sure you get a copy of your lab results so you can see exactly what your numbers are. Many docs will say your thyroid is "fine" when it is outside the new limits--which they don't know about. FYI, anything past 3.5 or so is regarded as hypothyroid, whereas it used to be anything over 5.0. Personally, I feel like crud if my TSH is past 1.4 or so.
I've been having blood sugar issues due to menstrual hormonal fluctuations. Any possibility this problem fluctuates with your cycle?
Hope you find a solution soon, and don't give up.

Wow! Sounds like you're doing great, congratulations! I know it's hard and you've probably had to have the my diabetes isn't going to go away talk with 1,000 people already! I had to explain all the time that I have type 1 and it's not ever going away no matter how skinny I am. I even had to explain that to nurses and doctors, it's so frustrating!
Good luck!

If you're really keeping your carbs that limited, then, IMO, something is wrong. I would pester your do****il you got an answer, or find a doc who is willing to find out what's happening here.

Jan,
Thank you. I am getting excited. I know when my thyroid went out the first time, it sent my sugars into the stratosphere for no reason what so ever! The second time it was less so, but still elevated them.
Occasionally artificial sweetners can do the same thing. Maybe try to get some stevia and make your own iced tea, etc. You could just be having a reaction to increased use of artificial sweetner?

Well, I've not had DKA - dropped my insulin requiremenst by 100 units a day.
I know lots of folks on here are very pro protien and anti carb. but i feel yes get the protien in, but also get in some carb with each meal. Been working for me quite well. I'm using about 34 units a day with basal and boluses. No issues with low bgs, and been avg about 170 for my sugars. been keeping it higher so i don't go low, requiring sugar and dumping. I'm 7 weeks post op as of today and down a total of 66 pounds 59 since surgery.

Drinking water and crystal light. I think my eating is fine. No pasta, rice, etc. Minimal carbs. Mostly protein and veggies. Now I'm afraid to eat anything. The doc did a complete metabolic panel, so I'm not sure if that included thyroid.. I'm now on Humalog sliding scale and Lantus 20 units, and Actos.
