Topic: Crossing Over to Transfer Addictions

Hi All,
There is a new OH Online Support Group. The above link will get you there.
It's called Crossing Over to Transfer Addictions
This group discusses the issue of transfer addictions (also known as cross addictions) after weight loss surgery. there are millions of people who have undergone gastric bypass who are now dealing with issues of addiction transfer.
For a number of people, giving up overeating leads to adoption of a new compulsion. Addiction transfer occurs when someone is unable or unwilling to rely on one compulsion (for us, it was food) and so switches to a new compulsion (alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, shopping, internet, porn, etc) due to not having dealt with the underlying issue behind the compulsion.
***Please feel free (and safe) to join and discuss any and/all issues you have regarding Transfer Addiction. ***

Topic: Insulin pump break update.
My insulin pump break is over. It lasted 2 days. It was so frustrating. I realized that I am very thankful for my insulin pump and I will never take a break again. Thanks for all the support.

I agree 100%. My Dr is on a pump and that is why I will give her the chance. I see her in four weeks. I told her if I hated it I was going straight back to the pump. My last A1C was 8.6. I would have to say out of anything diabetes is the most frustrating thing to deal with. It is nice to talk to someone that actually knows what I am talking about.

well, always should follow your doctors orders. But I hiad a smart arse doctor that told me I can get just as good control with shots as I could with the pump
So i had my hba1c down to a 7.6 on my own. I worked with a CDE for 3 months weekly appiotnments or phone calls to adjust and go over everything. my hba1c went to a 8.9 I said SCREW that - and found a new doctor and started pumping. Few tweaks of my own I was at a 6.9. That was 11 years ago - I would never go back.
I've been pumping every since. I have not done one post surgery but i'm due, so will see where it is.
many doctors don't like to deal with pumps becuase they require more work on their part. I say earn the pay we have to pay you.
Wish you good luck- i don't want to tell you what to do.. But I know for me, I would not do a pump break.

My Dr said she would like to try to get my A1C down a little more for surgery. I think it is a dumb time to make a change. I'm such an idiot I just accidentally took 35 units of novolog. I thought it was the lantus. See this doesn't happen with my pump. Actually this has never happened to me. I am afraid to go to sleep.

Why do it?
I reduced my basal by 40% prior to going into the hospital and another 25% during surgery. I'm insulin resistant, but this worked for me. I never removed my pump! just kept lowering the basal rates to suit my needs
