Topic: RE: Insulin Dependent?
I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one with blood sugar problems. My endocrinologist had to re-introduce insulin to me because my numbers got explosively high, sometimes at 400 or more. The downside is that I have picked up a few pounds because insulin makes me gain. I am beginning to use less insulin and my weight loss is improving, though. More exercise helps.

That's awesome, Joanna. It's got to be great not having to take anything anymore. Has your doctor said if you still have the Type 2 or not? Just curious.
Topic: RE: decrease in insulin
That's great news, Melanie! It gives me so much hope to get off my insulin. I'm only using 30 units, but am so tied of sticking myself every night.

Dr. Macik does not do the DS. No suprise that he would not recommend it. The Buick dealer will not tell you about a Lexus, etc.
I had a DS laparoscopically and I have just 5 incisions which have faded beautifully. To find a list of vetted DS surgeons, visit www.dsfacts.com.
Nope, the DS is NOT more dangerous. Has the same mortality as RNY. The DS actually preserves the pyloric valve of your stomach, unlike the RNY--it's a very big deal.

For starters, be patient. Second, the band rarely puts diabetes into remission because it does not inflict any sort of metabolic change since there is no malabsorption. Third, be patient again - your body is healing from a SURGERY, and any stress on the body can cause glucose levels to elevate. Are you taking readings other than just fasting? How are your post-prandials (even if only after something like a protein shake)?
