Check with your other local pharmacies.... some or most of them have some sort of program for diabetes management where the diabetic medications are free.... they have restrictions on which meds and so forth. Also, they usually have prescription discount cards at the pharmacy counter.

Have you applied for Obamacare insurance or Medicaid for your son?

Find out what company manufactures your son's insulin and go to their website (google search). Most Pharma companies have Patient Assistance programs for people who can't afford their (overpriced) products.

Do you have a low-income public health clinic in your area? Perhaps they can assist you as well. My county has one and it's actually a branch of our county government (health department); we have another one that is state funded.

Hope something here helps.

Topic: RE: Symptoms of Adult Diabetes

Thanks for sharing this amazing information, here I would like to share some more info about type 1 and type 2 diabetes that will be helpful for all.

There are different kinds of diabetes. The main ones are type 1 and type 2.

Type 1 Diabetes
This type of diabetes is mostly found in children and young adults. If you have type 1 diabetes, your body does not make insulin and you must inject insulin daily.

You May:
urinate often
be very thirsty
be very hungry
lose a lot of weight
be very tired
be irritable
have blurred vision
have trouble seeing.
Type 2 Diabetes
Most people with diabetes have this form of the disease. Type 2 is usually found in people over 45, who have diabetes in their family, who are overweight, who don’t exercise, and who have cholesterol problems. It is also common in certain racial and ethnic groups (blacks, American Indians, and Hispanics) and in women who had diabetes when they were pregnant. If you have type 2 diabetes, your body cannot make enough insulin or correctly use it. Treatment is diabetes pills and sometimes insulin injections, as well as diet and exercise.

You May Have:
any of the symptoms of type 1 diabetes
a lot of infections
cuts or bruises that heal slowly
tingling or numbness in the hands or feet
skin, gum, or bladder infections that keep coming back.
Controlling Diabetes
Daily monitoring and careful control of blood sugar levels are the most important steps to take for people with diabetes. If not treated, diabetes can cause:

High blood sugar (which could make you thirsty, tired, lose weight, urinate often, or give you infections that won’t go away)
Many serious health problems (which could hurt your eyes, kidneys, nerves, or heart).
Warning: Low Blood Sugar
People with diabetes may develop low blood sugar because their blood has too much insulin or other blood sugar-lowering medication or from not eating enough food. It is important to follow the eating and medication schedule your doctor has prescribed to avoid low blood sugar.

Low blood sugar could make you shaky, dizzy, sweaty, hungry, have a headache, have pale skin color, have sudden mood or behavior changes, have clumsy or jerky movements, have difficulty paying attention, feel confused, or have tingling sensations around the mouth.

Taking Care of Your Diabetes
The best way to take care of your diabetes is to make sure the levels or amount of sugar in your blood are near the normal range. This will make you feel better and help you stay healthy.

Your doctor will tell you how often to check your blood sugar level. To do this, you will need to take a drop of your blood and place it on a special test strip. Then a device, called a blood glucose meter, reads the strip. This device measures the amount of sugar in your blood.

Writing down this level, along with the time and date, will help you see how well your treatment plan is working.

Remember:
A person’s blood sugar level rises after eating any meal that contains carbohydrates or protein. Table sugar (also called ?sucrose) counts as a carbohydrate. Artificial sweeteners, such as saccharin, aspartame (NutraSweet), and sucralose (Splenda), do not count as carbohydrates or fats. They make food taste sweet. But they do not raise blood sugar levels and have little or no calories.

What Else Can You Do?
Eat well-balanced meals. The right amount of healthy food will keep your weight under control and help manage your diabetes.

Your body needs food from the four main food groups every day:

Fruits and vegetables (oranges, apples, bananas, carrots, and spinach)
Whole grains, cereals, and bread (wheat, rice, oats, bran, and barley)
Dairy products (milk, cheese, and yogurt)
Meats, fish, poultry, eggs, dried beans, and nuts.
Remember:
Too much fat and cholesterol in your diet can be very harmful to people with diabetes. Food that is high in fat includes red meat, dairy products (whole milk, cream, cheese, and ice cream), egg yolks, butter, salad dressings, vegetable oils, and many desserts.

Can You Do Anything Else?
Exercise is important for good diabetes control. It usually lowers blood sugar and may help insulin work better. Exercise and a healthy diet can also help you take off extra pounds if you are overweight. Especially in type-2, with medicines you can use above home remedies to cure diabetes or at least control it completely.

Warning:
Check with your doctor before starting any exercise program. You may need a snack before or during the activity to avoid having low blood sugar while you exercise.

Topic: RE: Taking Metformin

I spoke with my doctor tonight about my Metformin and crushing my pills.  My doctor said that it comes in a liquid form, however it is more expensive.  I'm going to contact my pharmacy and find out how much.  I'm waiting on my surgery now.  My A1C was 9.9 but with this diet for the surgery it is now 6.6  . Ask your pharmacy about the liquid form.  Good Luck.

Here are a few wonderful tips and effective natural remedies I would like to share with you that will help you control blood sugar and live a healthy life.

the alternative health viewpoint about diabetes is not about normalizing blood sugar, but in having your body in a state of homeostasis.

i have read that simply removing food items like dairy and grains (wheat, rice, corn) has helped immensely.

also, eating all of your vegetables raw. the raw food diet (that concentrates on being vegan, though i believe you need some animal products in your diet) has been studied and found effective in weight loss and type-2 diabetes.

mainly, you want to optimize your vegetables and good fats (eggs, fish) and minimize dairy and vegetable oils.

eat lots of vegetables, preferably raw, drink lots of water. stop eating dairy and grains is probably the most important.

Cinnamon is highly recommended for diabetics, as well as lemon and vinegar (mixing drinking water with lemon or cooking with vinegar, adding vinegar to a salad). This is because both lemon and vinegar are acidic and somewhat neutralize the blood sugar. You have to be careful though not to over do it, because if u eat or drink foods with too much acidity you can get stomach problems. So always do everything in moderation. I also suggest a good multivitamin, a lot of diabetics or prediabetics are lacking certain vitamins. If you dont have diabetes under control it could potential lead to very serious problems. Make sure to take care of your feet (routine pedicures) because diabetics could get a cut on their feet and get an infection, the decrease in circulation sometimes causes diabetics not to notice the cut or infection and then it could lead to amputation. I also suggest you take special vitamins (specifically for diabetics) for your eyes as well, because diabetes greatly affects the eyes. So If you're looking for home remedies to cure diabetes, just try these and see the amazing result.

The best NATURAL answer to Diabetes is Bitter Melon.

This vegetable is available in all markets. I think some Indian grocery shops also have this vegetable.

Wash the vegetable and eat it raw - about half the vegetable per day and check your sugar level after about 4 days - you will see the difference. Of course I must warn you that the taste of it is very unpleasant. Once you know that it is good for you you will come to like it.

Before you take another antibiotic, here’s something you might want to consider. A Danish study revealed that the use of antibiotics might increase the risk of type-2 diabetes, a condition that increases the risk of heart disease and other problems.

What type of WLS did you have?  From what I have read it is suggested to have the bypass to resolve the diabetes, but I'd rather do the sleeve.  I have had neuropathy in both feet for about two years.  Thanks for your help!

I had lap band surgery 10 years ago, and am now going in for a revision to RNY.  I lost approximately 40 lbs, but the lap band never resolved my diabetes.  In fact it has gotten worse.  I originally was looking into the sleeve, but my Dr. recommended the RNY.  I am also Type 2 and will be taken off all meds right after surgery!  I'm super excited about being off diabetes medications.
