Mariekh You can actually be a type 1 at 23, my brother was diaganosed at 22. But your blood sugar does not sound like type1 you may actually have hypoglycima, alot of the symptons can be the same. Let me know what your dr says.

Test your blood sugar with your daughters meter, it sounds like you may have Type 1. Sorry but I'm sure you know the symptons. The sugery will help you I have been a type 1 for nearly 45 yrs and been banded for 11/2 yrs and the weight loss alone will make you feel better. Good luck to you.

Topic: Little Help?
Okay so lately I have been having this burning pain in my arms and leg and it wont go away and it wakes me up during a dead sleep and I do not sleep cause the pain, thirsty as hell, hungry like no other (I lost in the past 6 months around 40+ lbs and then I gained 12lbs), I have to pee every 5 minutes (OK I'm exaggerating, more like 15 - 20), overly tired, moody (I am on a mood stabilizer so wtf mate) after I eat i have tons of energy and better mood, cheerful and happy... but maybe a hour so later I am cranky, hungry, drowsy and my eyes can barely stay open... I am having bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery) and I have to drink special super low carb and high in protien drinks and from those I get all tired after a hour, I can almost see the root of my teeth, bladder infections almost every few months (I bath every day and I am a very clean person), sever head aches Vicodine, Valum, Motrin, Excedrine do not help at all, I get a little disoriented (I take adderall for adhd so again WTF), blood pressure was 150 / 103 just a couple hours ago when I went to see my doctor. My doctor is making me fast from 6p.m. to 8a.m. he told me to tell my husband is I fall asleep and it is hard to wake me (just like it is when my 3 year old has a low) to call 911...
So with all this info... what do ya'll think? I hate waiting for tests and doctor appointments and most of all not know what type of diabetes he thinks I have! I would ask my daughter what her symptoms are or were but she is 3 years old and um yeah all she knows about her diabetes is how to load her meter, clean her finger, poke her finger, put the blood on it, she know what the insulin vile look like, what a syringe is, what her shuggie kit is and what her demo pump was for "for my diabetes". My step mother who has been a type 1 diabetic since she was a teenager won't talk to me or ever pretend to be civil. Other than that... I have this site and I am reaching out for help.

before your pancreas worked very hard to keep up with the insulin requirements you needed. Post op - the pancreas was able to produce enough to keep you going. However that honey moon period might of not lasted. Just might not be able to produce enough. I would have them check your c-peptide test to find out if your pancreas is over or under producing insulin.
Many folks type 1 and type 2 can have healthy pregnancies. Just make sure your taking care of yourself, testing those sugars and following your endos advice.
PS: I'm type 1 as well - but certainly had type 2 tendencies pre-op

Type 2 diabetes afflicts normal-weight people as well as those who are overweight. The research is increasingly showing that the physiology of the disease happens in the initial part of the small intestine. There's also research that shows that even with initial diabetes remission, RNY patients sometimes do have diabetes recurrence. Bottom line: don't beat yourself up. I'm sorry this is happening, but I don't think it's anything you did or failed to do.
I'm Type 1, so I will always be on insulin until some bright medical research team figures out how to make stem cells cure diabetes. I have one child, now 6 years old, and I was on an insulin pump for my pregnancy (well, I've just been on an insulin pump since 2002, basically). It's just not a big deal to be on insulin while pregnant. It's certainly much better to have strong blood sugar control while trying to get pregnant and during those critical first weeks of pregnancy, when organ systems are forming in the embryo. THat way your baby will be healthy, and that's what is important, right?
A side note--make sure you are taking your vites religiously as you are trying to conceive. Especially since you don't absorb B vitamins well, you need to be extra-vigilant about folate for several months before conceiving. THat way, you minimize the chances of any neural tube defects (which leads to spina bifida).
Diabetes will not stop your plans to have a healthy baby. It may complicte them a bit, but it's all manageable. I promise!

Topic: Diabetes again?
Hi, everyone I'm new to this forum. The day of my surgery (June 10th 2009) my surgeon told me not to take any more of my meds. I was on 11 pills a day and 3 insulin shots. I was delighted at this news and have been off everything but vitamins until now. My husband and I want to get pregnant we were told once I dropped the weight I should be able to conceive. So I went for pre-pregnancy labs and found out I'm still diabetic and my sugars are worse than before surgery. My doctor put me back on insulin Lantus 20 units at bedtime, and I feel bad all over again. My dr said he's not going to put me on pills since I can't take pills during pregnancy. What would make it go away and then come back. Maybe it never went away I was just controlling it real well. I hate this I wake up every morning with it around 80 which makes me so dizzy I can barely stand. I'm so disappointed. I didn't become diabeti****il I became obese and was told if I got to normal size it would go away well it didn't. I'm so depressed about this. We want a child so bad and I'm terrified of taking insulin while pregnant I so much wanted a normal happy pregnancy. Wishful thinking I guess. Thanxs for letting me rant.
Topic: RE: vegan?
Going to have to look into some vegan recipies for sure. There is TVP textured vegetable protein. that can be added to stuff. spinach has some protein in it. 2grms but its something. Good ole protein shakes - but you can't just live on them.
Sorry about the diabetes, the pancreas just might of never been able to recover after years of struggle. (I'm guessing years if you have neuropathy) Are you a type 1 or type 2. I'm type 1 - and will always have issues with D. Type 1 - insulin dependant can never be reversed, but improved. Type 2 is a different diabeastie all together. If you need medication - then I hope that what they have you on is keeping your numbers were they need to be so that you can feel your best.
Best thing to do is talk to your nutritionist for help. Definitely eating low GI will help. If your kidneys are compromised you don't want to over tax them with too much protein. (Have that checked out) You want to be with in the right limits your body needs - and it may be different.
Now if you had exprienced regain (don't know if you did or not) But just a 5% to 8% drop in weight can make a difference in the level of medications required for treatment (esp if type 2)
