Patients with diabetes should be careful when it comes to diet. Alcohol, high fat content, refined food (ie white bread, pasta, white rice) it can cause high sugar levels. Fatty foods can also harm the liver and the heart.

Best thing you should do is to consult a doctor. They will decide what's best bariatric surgery for you. Good luck!

Obesity leading to diabetes can create kidney problems. Its because of hypertension cause by diabetes, its because the blood protein albumin begin to leak into their urine. You should ask a doctor about it, they will definitely give you special diet program.

For the most part, the food you eat for the RNY is good for a diabetic.  It's also good for him to eat frequent meals to keep his blood sugar level.  I'm glad they caught it.  I hope he can get it under control soon and feel better.

Patients are able to eat larger portions than other bypass surgeries because of a larger stomach size and the pylorus, a stomach valve located at the bottom of the stomach, usually bypassed by other bariatric surgeries, remains intact. The intact pylorus also eliminates the possibly of ulcers, blockages, and dumping syndrome, a condition in which the stomach empties its contents into the small intestine too quickly, causing cramping and nausea, ulcers, and blockages.

Good luck for that. According to Kaplan, bariatric surgery has the best possible weight loss outcome, with 50 - 70% of patients losing up to 50% of their excess weight and keeping it off, compared with weight loss medications (0%) and diet and exercise (2 - 5%).

Are you posting just for the sake of seeing your posts show up? I don't know if you post on other forums, but here on the diabetes forum, many of your posts are not only untimely (digging up threads from months or a year or more ago) or unhelpful in that they don't really pertain to the original topic.

Everything you listed - eggs and meats - are fine. What he needs to limit is his carb intake, especially processed carbs like pasta, white bread, refined sugar/sweets, etc. Depending on the individual, he may even do better by avoiding ALL carbs, even whole grains and fruits. The only way to know for sure is to test 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes after eating something to see how it affects the individual.

Pre-op, i controlled my type 2 diabetes best by eating low carb, high protein, unrestricted fat. BTW, this is all assuming he is a type 2.
