 Yes.

I feel similar - I have hypoglycemia and some neuro issues...

Are you passing out still?  Have you had EEG testing?

no I'm not worried about the liquid diet. I have a pump and have dieted eating almost nothing at a few times in my life. I find it easy with a pump. I'm having the RNY mainly becasue my insurance won't cover a sleeve for one and second my surgeon has experience with type 1 diabetics as well as my enod having experience with a few of his patients having successfull BS. Oh I wish I was scheduled already, I can't wait!

I also am a Type 1 Diabetic and am going to have the gastric sleeve. I am curious why you decided on the RNY. I was scheduled to have surgery at the end of June but chickened out. I am a little nervous because my doctor does not have much experience with type 1. I have also heard of the same thing with slower weight loss. Also my doctor will have me on liquids for two weeks, is your doctor doing the same? I am a little worried about this because of my diabetes. Good luck with everything I hope everything goes well for you.

YMMV - but post op i changed my target bg to 170 for the first month. I was so worried about having a low blood sugar and not being able to treat it. Not having regular in the body insulin on board, I don't think have had to worry about reactive hypoglycemia  - and in a really bad low pinch i have used the glucose drinks - but everyone is different.  A friend of mine had lows from her RNY and not be diabetic so she had to use the tabs, I was worried about the sugar, but that hasn't been an issue. Got more q's please feel free to PM me

Type 1 diabetic for 25 years - pumping for 12 years.

Type 1 diabetic here - let's see droped quickly the first two months, but here i am 10 months out and down 119 pounds. So what if it has slowed down. I was happy reaching under 300 back in november and considered that reaching my goal, all else is a blessing.

are you pumping? no way I could of done it with out my pump.. i loved the fact i could reduce my basals. I created profiles to be 40% less then 60% less.. I went from using about 130-140 units a day to about 45. Thing is your insulin requirements will change, with the change will be the rate of weight loss. yeah sometimes Ih ave to "feed" lows, but just have to make good choices for them. I always start off with some milk, wait and then eat something if additional low support is required. Good luck

Sorry I didn't tell the whole story. I take 5 units of novolog at every meal if it's under 100. If it's over 100 I'm on a sliding scale 1 extra unit for every 40 over 100. It's confusing I know. If it's 140 I take 6 units 180 7 units. I hate this but I'm trying to get pregnant and my A1C was 8.7 so he's going drastic to get it right and I've had to put my conceiving plans on hold.
Thanxs, Amy

You should really ask your endo about this. I don't understand why they have you on 5 units of Novolog at every meal? Your dosage of insulin should depend on how many carbs you are getting at a meal. For instance my endo has me on 1 unit of Novolog for every 12 grams of carb I eat. So if you were taking 5 units you would have to be eating 60 grams of carb at a meal. NOw granted, everyones dosages are diferent but that seems high to me (unless you are eating that much carb at a meal) You shouldn't be taking more glucose tablets to support your insulin, you should be taking LESS insulin. Hope this helps
