Topic: RE: POST WLS & NEURAPOTHY PAIN - IMPROVE???
Thanks, Mishelle! I am very proud of myself for quitting smoking - a very difficult thing to do and at a time in my life where I am in foreclosure after owning my home for 17 years.
Thanks again and I have gotten mixed info from my Doc. At least my surgeon. He says things like I will feel fine after 3 days after having an open RNY! He also said I could go swimming after 3 weeks, and after I did my own research - this would be very risky especially for a diabetic! The risk of infection would be terrible. So - I can't say he has his head on right - but he has a rep of being the best surgeon and very low post-surgical fatalities or injuries.
Hope you are well!

Topic: RE: getting banded.... what about my pump after?
thanks for all the feed back. i am going to try to have my pump on ... since from what i hear its only a 45min procedure for the band and a total of 4-5 hrs in the hospital i think it shouldn't be a problem. When i had my two children i had to be taken off my pump because the docs i had were nut jobs. I have called the endo again and she said that she will try to get me an apt with her before i have the surgery on the 16Th

I have not had RNY yet BUT I have had 2 c-cections and 3 other surgeries and all of them allowed me to keep my pump. they just adjust the basal.

WTG on the quit smoking part. That's why folks sometimes see weight gain when they quit. Go from a "blackend" stressed digestive system then when the smoking stop, things "pink" up and start working better.
In time when the sugars have stabolized at a better range, and the healing - then the pain will or should improve. Just used to have some folks complain about weight gain when tehir sugars get better, well because they aren't ******g away their calories when spilling sugars all the time when running higher bgs.
Hope you got good info from Dr.

I kept my pump on during my RNY and ran a 70% basal rate. Had a friend that went through surgery and they took off her pump and they could not figure out why she was over 600 when she woke up. Many times they don't realize the pump is just fast acting.

My error. I have no idea why I posted VSG. Brain fog I guess. LOL I meant the RNY as this is what I most likley will have as soon as a date is set. I wish you all the best and pray your neuopathy will lessen quite a bit after surgery. I was talking with an RN in another country over the week-end and she claims she has seen neuopathy dramatically improve in time with weight loss surgery and the remiss of diabetes. I hope she is right! The WLSurgeon does not know. )-: if it will. I can dream, can't I? God Bless Us and heal!

Hmmmm, confused. I didn't have a VSG??? Where did you see that in my profile?
I am going to have an open RNY on Monday. I'm getting very excited, but also very nervous. I'm hoping that the neuropathy will subdue just a bit.
Thanks for your well wishes!!! I also wish you the best.

These misinterpretation & assumptions are what I've been attempting to avoid but apparently unavoidable. Basing that we are on a forum to which was designed to be supportive of one another lets get on with that matter of business.

When I had a c-section they let me keep it on. Each surgeon is different. If you seem to have good control on your own and keep good records then try to just do it on your own and keep it on.
