Topic: RE: Thyroid and diabetes
I am so sorry for your problems, dear. I understand why you are depressed. I also have diabetes and thyroid problems. I am just 10 months out of bypass and still losing and for the last 3 months have had wonderful tests. I am very happy about that. But I can surely sympathize with you. I don't know if others have had the problems you're facing, but am sure they have.
I'd like to suggest that you take a deep breath and try to relax a bit, go to some of the forums here. You might find help there. Also, take yourself back 3 years and remember what you did to use your tool, your band, in the first place. Get strict with yourself again. Review your bariatric bible or material, if you have it. Keep a food journal, log your blood sugar test result faithfully, and make sure you are getting your water as well as other liquids. Reassess your exercise routine. You might need to vamp it up or change it some. Our bodies get used to certain exercises after a while. Then they no longer work as well as they did in the beginning. This way, even if you don't discover where the problem lies on your own, you will have something to show your doctor that might help him find your problem. It may be some underlieing problem that can be taken care of in short order.
Please keep us informed of your progress. And don't give up hope. You worked too hard to get
rid of that 100+ lbs. Don't give up on it now.
Good luck

Topic: RE: Neuropathy
I saw my neurologist this week and he said that the nurtition changes from the surgery may cause it to get worse for a while. Did anyone else have this happen?
My pain has been very severe the past few weeks and he won't give me anything for the pain. He is weening me off my gabapentin and has started me on the lyrica. I am only on 25mg twice daily though and I am not seeing a difference yet. It's just so frustrating I have lost almost 100lbs and it seems to be worse than before.

I'm 5 years out, maintaining a 180 lb weight loss and normal sugars for the past 5 years.....but the neuropathy is still there. It's not as bad as it used to be, not so much burning and sharp pains but that may be because there's less pressure on my feet.
Topic: Any pumpers?
I'm a type2 on an insulin pump and having lapband surgery on Feb 25th. I'm hoping that I'll be in the 80% group that are able to go off insulin. Atleast that's the stat I read when I first got on the wait list for surgery back in Aug 2006. Any advice, tips, or tricks?
Topic: Does sleeve wls help diabetes?
I know that bypass helps diabetes by the physical changes in the intestines after the the surgery, not just the difference in the diet that you go by afterward. I'm not very familiar with the Sleeeve....does it have the same effect on diabetes as the bypass or does it just help control it like a healthy diet/lifestyle might do?

Topic: RE: diabetes meds besides metformin
Hello I'm new to this , My problem is that back in April 2010 I fall and broke my forearm, broke both bones, and found out that I had diabetes my sugar was at 300 + and after surgery it was at 400+. So that was my wake up call to lose weight. The day that I fall I had an appointment with the weight lose program, but could not make that appointment because of the accident. After my surgery I follow the diabetes diet and lose 35pound from April to September. And I felt great I was doing really well until the holidays came now I feel like I have gain some of the weight back, but not all but some and need help on how to loose it again. I was on two different insulin and metformin, after I lose the weight I'm still on metformin and glipizide. I no longer take insulin. And the metformin didn't give me diarrhea in fact my doctor said it makes some people lose weight. So I hope your mom get the help she needs. If someone have any advice for me please post it. Thanks

Thanks for your comments. My doctor wants me on at least 40 grms of carbs a day! He might just not get what he wants... To me, carbs are the enemy. I see the doctor again on the 20th and we'll see where we go from there. Good luck with the revision.
