Hi! My surgery went really well and I'm recovering well. My blood sugar was horrible. I'm type 1.
I woke at 180 (my endocrinologist said to try for 165 before surgery to build in a buffer). My sugar was 397 after surgery and the on sight endocrinologist and pharmacist wanted to give me 8 units of Humilog. I said that might work for a 2 year old but not someone my size. The gave me 15 units (I needed 35). I was so sick! Not from surgery. After 2 more hours of suffering I was 325. They wanted to give me 8 units.
My surgeon stepped in, told then that I know what I need and to give me the insulin I want. He left for the night. After that the pharmacist refused to follow the surgeons direction. I wanted 25 more units. They gave me 8.
I stopped listening to them, refused all insulin and used my own pen that night (against the rules). Then I felt great after I took control of me. The next day I took what they gave me and supplimented it with my own.
Sad
I am T1 too. I am doing my 9 months prior to surgery now. I am trying to connect with people that are T1 so that I know what to expect. I am on a pump. I'm wondering what my adjustments will need to be etc.
I have been a type 1 since I was 3 years old. The hospital assumed I was type 2 and didnt want to give me my insulin. I had to basicly yell to het some insulin. Stick up foryourself or bring your own insulin.

I'm 15 days from RNY surgery. I'm nervous because EVERYONE assumes I'm type 2 Diabetic. As a Type 1, I'm nervous about nursing staff assuming. Any advice??
The main reason I'm getting the surgery is not to die from complications of diabetes. My A1C is over 8 and my FBS is high. I'm on Jardiance, Victoza, and Toujeo. The Toujeo is making me hungry.
It will be better if you let them know about your diabetes before getting the treatment.
I am doing amazing! A1C is 5.4 and I am 75 pounds lighter! Although my weight loss has slowed I am still working at it every day!! Now- to get into a REAL habit of exercising ??
