Topic: RE: Predisone

Before I had surgery, I was having some serious issues with swelling and hives.  I was already struggling to get my sugars down, so my doctor was very hesitant to prescribe prednisone to help.  He gave me 7 pills but told me not to take them all right in a row, but to space them out when I really, really needed them.

As you probably know, prednisone can drastically raise blood sugar and can be very dangerous for someone who has diabetes.  I would only take it in the case where nothing else will work and the benefits outweigh the risks.

Topic: RE: Long term results on Victoza?

My hubby is on Victoza and has been on it for at least a year, probably closer to 2.  it has helped his diabetes, but not enough.  He recently decided that he was going to join me and have RNY.  His BMI is in the high 30s, but his diabetes is becoming harder to control.

Topic: Long term results on Victoza?

I just started Victoza 3 days ago. I've certainly felt the side affects of feeling full, a little nausea, and some lack of energy. I've read that those side effects ease over time. I've seen a couple of forum links here that were from 2010/2011. I would like to know if any of those people are still on it and if 1. they have had continued weight loss, 2. still have side effects, 3. control of blood sugar?

people with diabetes need to moderate their fruit juice intake as larger glasses of juice can substantially raise blood sugar levels. The key is to In addition, more recently, regular consumption of fruit juice has been linked with an increase in diabetes risk.

Topic: RE: WLS to get diabetes back in control

I know I'm a little 'late to the party' here... but this is my first post on this site. I was referred to have the weight loss surgery from my PCP, due to his concerns with my diabetes and needing dialysis later in life. When he said that having the surgery would potentially reverse the diabetes -- I'm not going to lie, I was skeptical.

I'm thankful to see that others were in the same boat as I am now, and that with the surgery, it has improved their lives. :)

Unfortunately, my insurance will not cover any weight loss surgery at the moment....but I'm hoping to switch insurances sometime soon.

Topic: Predisone

Hello friends,  No one seems to be posting here. I am still considering having the sleeve in hopes of lowering my A1C levels and to stop/slow down the progression of this condition. I started having pain running up and down my left side from the hips down. Dr. said maybe sciatic nerve but think its stemming from my lower back. I was put on prednisone yesterday to use for one week. Have anyone done this before? If so, did you gain any weight during that time and did it help at all?

Topic: RE: What was your a1c before WLS?

My surgeon required a number below 7.0. You would not be scheduled until you got to that point. I was sitting at about an 8.4, so it took a few months to get that number under control.

At my 6 month post-op blood draw, my A1C was 5.4. I don't have any numbers from between those two dates.

I had serious complications and healing issues from having hidradenitis surgery in the past with a >10 A1C. The surgeon who did that said it usually takes someone 6 weeks to heal. Took me over 8 months and an extra surgery, so I can appreciate my new surgeon requiring a more normal A1C.

Hi ya. I'm 6 weeks out from surgery. I just had my a1c taken and it came back normal. My dr is so impressed. He said if it's the same in my next review I'll come off all medication. I'm so excited.

That's a great improvement, do you mind me asking what new pill was added?
