Ok here is the deal. I don't know which I am. What is the test I need to determine this? I was told when I was 12 or so that I was borderline diabetic. Now days they say there is no borderline diabetics. Either you are or you are not. They are also saying that they are finding type 2 in overweight kids. I was an overweight kid. So do you see my confusion. Pam ps it seems the healthier I eat the higher the readings are 400+.Is a good day

Type 1 has no pancreatic activity and require insul usually for life. Type 2 can be reversed and controlled better. Mine went away after 2 months of LapBand surgery. Your doctor can can tell you which one you have. IT is vital to know.

Pam, your PCP or Endocronologist can do a few different blood tests to determine if your Type 1 or Type 2. I wasn't diagnoised with Type 1 until I was 27 yrs old and considered Juvenile Diabetic. The hospital told me immediately I was Type 1, and my blood sugar was 377 at the time. I assume, since I was always heavy as a child, that I probably had Type 2 diabetes and never knew it. Having blood sugars over 400 is very dangerous. Please try and get a diagnosis immediately so you can get the help you need. Take care, Wendy 278/188/150

Please go to an endocrinologist or doctor as soon as possible!! Your sugars are damaging your eyes, kidneys, blood vessels and heart. I was diagnosed at age 12 with type 1. My sugar in the office was 800 on their machine. I was a fat kid and lost 50 lbs in 2 months down to 70 lbs. I have been taking insulin for 24 years. Please take care of yourself. YOU are important to your family. Theresa

Hi Pamela, People with Type 1 Diabetes usually require treatment with insulin immediately following diagnosis and for life thereafter. If you were told that you were borderline diabetic, you definitely were not type 1 at that time. There is no borderline with type 1 at all. My doctor told me that what borderline actually means is that you are either pre- diabetic, which means that you would have some indicators that would suggest that you could very likely become diabetic without some serious lifestyle and diet changes, or that you already are a Type 2 Diabetic. Type 2 Diabetes was often called borderline in the past. This term is no longer used as there really is no borderline. With a glucose level of 400+ you are in harms way. Please get to a doctor and get some testing so you can start treatment. I sm a Type 2 Diabetic, and I can honestly say that it is a managable disease. If you eat what you are supposed to, take your meds, get all you tests done when you should, and exercise regularly, you can really do well for yourself. Honestly, if 400 is a good day, you really gotta take care of this. You could lose your eyes, your limbs, your kidneys, have a heart attack or stroke, and your loved ones could lose you. I don't mean to scare you, but there are some very real consequences to untreated diabetis. It doesn't show on the outside, so we think we are okay, but really this is nothing to ignore or play with. Take gentle care.- Shelley C
