I dont mean to be gross,,, BUT...
I recently came off of Avandia(8mg) and switched to Glucophage(1700mg). My doc said Glucophage went up to like 2500 per day as the highest dosage. He thought 1700 was suitable to me.
He also put me on Vytorin(small dose) to control my cholesterol.
Heres my problem:
I know Glucophage may cause diarrhea,,, but Im going to the bathroom 4-5 times a DAY!!! Mostly, after EVERY meal!!
And the color of my stool has changed also. Any body got any opinions?
Steve
Hey Steve,
I was on the same amount of Glucophage and I had the worst case of diarrhea. I had the doctor change my pills from Glucophage to Metorformin (spelling?) and it ihas stopped completely. My Dr said he does not know why it stopped because they are the "same thing". I said they might be the same thing, but that side effect has STOPPED. Dave T
Hi Steve,
I have been on Glucophage/Metformin (Metformin is the chemical name of this drug) for about four years. The diarrhea will go away. It drove me nuts for a while at first, but your body will get used to things and it will calm down. Your stools may always be loose when you are on this drug, but nothing like the screaming runs you get when you first start it.
I am on both Avandia and Glucophage, and I am wondering if you mind telling us what made your doc take you off of Avandia. It seems to be so much more effective for me than the Glucophage was alone. I also take Glyburide for the diabetes, which is associated with weight gain, so I am not too happy to be on that one. I also get some leg swelling from the Avandia. Did you experience that? Take gentle care.
