New to Diabetes
Hello,
I was diagnosed with Diabetes the day of surgery. (12/03/04).
My blood sugar was 480.
I'm 28 yrs old ,,,and now 13 mos out.
My blood test results last week came in that my blood sugar was now 125 (borderline high/ Diabetes).
I have not followed up with an endrocronologist yet.
Thinking maybe I should, especially since I wish to get pregnant within the next 12 mos.
I'm well aware we're not doctors here, just looking for anyone wishing to comment with some advisement or other useful info.
Still trying to understand this disease. Drop me a line sometime people!

Well I had diet controlled diabetes before surgery. Five months later I don't anymore. The WLS usually cures 80 % of diabetic cases. I was one of them. But it can also depend on your diet after surgery. WLS patients most often drop all the sugary foods they loved. For me most of that sugary stuff doesn't taste good anymore. I used to drink at least 4 cokes or pepsis a day. Even the diet versions are yucky now in taste. Mostly drink water or iced tea now. It is assumed that most of us now eat healthy foods, so maybe that is why we are "Cured" That's about all I know of diabetes. Jer
Kimmy, I highly recommend you seeing an endocronologist since you've been borderline diabetic for over a year and thinking of getting pregnant. Very serious......please see a specialist that can track your labs, AIC to make sure everything is okay before having a baby. High sugars can cause problems with the pregnancy.
Best of luck to you and e-mail if you have any questions. I've gone thru 2 pregnancies with Type 1 diabetes.
