Question about post op and low levels
Hi,
I am 16 months post op. I started at 282 and am now at 132. My weight has been pretty level for about the last 3 months. When I was pregnant with my second child (13 years ago) I was hypoglycemic. It went away after the pregnancy. As of late I have been having some pretty scary moments about 1 hour or so after eating, I assumed it was normal dumping, but now I am actually worried that I have become hypoglycemic again. Is this normal? I am trying to figure out if I need to contact my Dr. Oh, when I went in for my 1 yr checkup my blood sugar was low (sorry can't remember the numbers) and the nurse stated 'well you must not have eaten today', that was not the case it was 4:00 in the afternoon I had eaten. But they never requested a followup???? This was not my surgeon.
Any help or insight would be great. I have looked and seem to only find info on people who were diabetic before the surgery, I was not. So I guess I am trying to find out if you can become this way because of the surgery. One other thing, I really do NOT take in much sugar as I really dump on that.
Thanks,
Lisa
I can't recall an article I read on hypoglycemia & WLS, but I know its prevalent, maybe do a www.google.com search and type it in for the articles. Sounds very common and unfortunate. Good luck, I hope mini meals will help keep your numbers more level.

Hi Lisa, I'm pre op and new to this board today. I usually am on the main board. I imagine you have resolved your issue by now. I just wanted to tell you that you can buy a store brand blood sugar test machines real cheap. I have one from Krogers grocery stores that cost about $15 (maybe a sale price, but regular not more than $25) The test strips are more expensive but you can buy a small amount of them for about $25(for 25?) I also have a comparable one from Walgreens.
These are very acurate I have tested them against my doctors machine.
It would be a way to be sure what is going on when you feel badly.
Hope your doing better.
