I had lap RNY on July 12th and have been on a plateau for 3 weeks. During my short recovery I have had several obstacles to get by. I first had low bld pressure problems and passed out. Now I am off both of the meds I used to take. I developed a bld sugar spike (150) that took 10 days to get my meds readjusted to get it back to 110. I am only on glucophage (1000 2 x day), but preop, used to take Actos too. Then I developed an ulcer and minor stricture. Then I plateaued. I started feeling stronger and better all the time, so I added some weight training to break the plateau. Two days ago my sugars went up to 240!! Holy cow. Now what. I called the doc and he added another med (maybe it is gliburide). He even talked about Insulin. I am really worried I will become insulin dependent. I was such an "easy keeper" preop, with just 2 meds. Anybody else experience anything like this post op? Any ideas or suggestions? I'm scared in Portland.

actually this would be a good post to put on the main message board. The reason for this is your body is changing. The reason he said shots are a possiblity is that any sugar level over 200 for an extended period of time is dangerous to your body. it can cause other problems and issues you don't want to deal with. I hope you post this on the main board. But the reason is your body is going through changes and it should level out. chances are your doctor won't put you on insulin for a one time high but if the problem continues he may. good luck..ask him to try Avandia for your diabetes. Thank you for your response. Why do you recommend Avandia? I will be calling my physician in the morning because by results with the Glipizide AKA Glucatrol are not great. I have am sugars around 193. Also, 2 hours after taking this med I get really hot, shakey and feel queasy. I never get below one 193, so it isn't low blood sugar, though that is what it feels like. I just want it to get back to normal. I posted this on the main boards a couple of days ago and did not get much response. I'll watch for you on the post op posts. All the best too you! Jenny

Hi Jenny, Sometimes you don't get a response on the main board...star it as urgent that you really need help...something to get their attention. Avandia is a godsend for me. I tried the other meds and it was the one that worked the best..but you have to just hope it works...i used it with another diabetes medication....and now am not taking it..just the other which isn't as strong. Lestways try something else and if you got questions , there are a lot of people so give the main board or your state board a try again..the ones i usually read are the ones that get my attention....I just am hoping the surgery stops the need i have for insulin! Peggy, I feel like such a dope, but I wanted to share with you since you have been so supportive. My testing strips were expired, so I bought new ones today. When I tested at home with the old ones it read 220. After breakfast and with new strips I was at 73!! Oops. I guess those dates are on there for a reason. lol. Anyway I am delighted that I don't have to go on Insulin. Thank you again for all the help Jenny
