high blood sugar levels and surgery question

Hi. I am waiting for a surgery date, just got approved last week for wls. My last AIC was 7.2 (down from 9.5) but lately (the last month or so) I have slipped and not had as tight control. I am maxed on oral and just today took insulin on a sliding scale to help bring my bs down. It was 420 this am which scared me to death. I have to keep my AIC down to qualify for surgery...the insulin puts on so much weight I try to avoid it. When my bs gets this high exercising doesn't always bring it down, it will take a couple weeks and a lot of hard work to stabilize it again. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks, Julie
