No more insulin!
I am a type 2 diabetic. Before surgery, I was taking 40 units of Novlin 70/30 am and 40 units of Novlin 70/30 pm. My diabetes had progressed so much that oral medicatines did nothing. During my stay in the hospital, my blood sugar numbers were high in the 200's, but my surgeon said that they put sugar water in the IV, so that made since. When I came home from the hospital, I was off of insulin unless my blood sugars went above 150. I am 6 months post-op now, and I do use insulin if my numbers go above 130, which is very seldom. Then I only have to take 10 units of Novlin 70/30, so that happens about twice a month now instead of twice a day.
My grandmother died at age 54 years old from complications due to her diabetes, and my mother died at age 55 years old from complications due to her diabetes, I was getting worse and worse before surgery and I am 52 years old, having the WLS hopefully I will break the family diabetes curse. BTW, all of my siblings also have diabetes and now I watch them getting worse, while everyday I get better and better.
This WLS is the best thing that I could have every done for myself.

Hi Diane
I was on 850 mg of glucophage 3x a day,and 50 units of humalog 70/25 a day, I had surgery on jan 22 , no more glucophage at all , I take 6 units of insulin in the am if sugars are above 150, they have ranged 158-200 since surgery, I am hoping to be off it altogether once my body fully recovers from the surgery, the protein drinks I have been using are: Whey Fruity tropical punch www.molecularnutrition.net It tastes like a fruit punch and has 22 grams of protein in a serving. I also use Isopure you can get it at RIO's or any Vitamin stores. Hope this helps and good luck on getting your surgery date. this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. its only 3 wks out and I feel so much better and am down 27lbs yahoo
You are all my new heroes. I'm still pre-op and waiting for approval, but one of the main reasons I want WLS is to stop taking my shots. I was put on shots after going through infertility (which is still unsuccessful) and have done nothing but GAIN weight since! I'm on 3 shots a day with an obscene amount of insulin at night (86 units). Thank you all for providing such a positive outlook on the light at the end of the tunnel for my injections!!!
