Did you find yoru weight loss to be at a slower rate than others? Mine is 28 pounds in 9 weeks. Just curious...

I have read several different times that taking insulin does slow weight loss.  With or without RNY.  Is there possibly something else you can take (metformin) I've heard actually helps with weight loss.  I'd talk to your Doc about what alternatives there may be for you!

Good Luck!

Yes I am going Friday to hi and I will talk to him and see. I don;t want to seem ungrateful for my weigh-loss, and I know I don;t have as much to lose as some people do. But if there is something holding me back and I can change it, I want to!

You have lost almost as much weight as I have, and I had my RNY one month earlier than you!! I would think you are right on track. I'm a type one diabetic and I don't think I am losing fast enough, but I'm ok with that because I'm just grateful for ANY loss. It's always been tough for me to lose probably because of my diabetes. Hang in there. It may be slower for us, but we will lose it.

Whoops-sorry. Thought it said you've lost 50 some pounds so far. My average right now is about 3 pounds a week. And that seems like what you are doing.

I am scheduled for surgery and called my Dr. today(Endocrinologist). He wants me to take only Lantus at night time, and Metformin. Once I have my surgery 10/24. he wants me to stop everything. I am type 2.

I had surgery 9/15/11. Have lost a net 10 lbs since (not counting the 5 lb gain and loss caused by surgery). I don't know what normal is.

I agree with Polly.  The whole reason I chose this surgery was to improve my blood sugars.  After 25 years, I know that I have to focus on this if I want to have a good quality of life ahead and hopefully reduce the chance of complications.  I have no expectations around the rate of weight loss or the amount I will lose.  It will be what it will be.  I gained 100 pounds after going on insulin 24 years ago, so anything I lose will be a bonus.  It's a lifelong thing - exercise, eating right - all of that continues whether I am at goal or not.  So, what the scale says doesn't matter to me.  What my glucometer says matters more - but that is just me!

Good luck!

Terry, that is exactly why I had the surgery as well. I could deal with the extra weight, to a point. But my main goal was to be in great control of (and dare I say cured of ) diabetes. I know one is never really cured, but you know what I mean.

On that note, an update. A1C was 6.5 1 month out of surgery after 8.1 for pre op blood work. Just took it again last week and will know results on 10/14.

Endo took me off Novalog with meal and upped my doe (initially) f Lantus. I had been taking 10, he upped me to 30. After only a week, I am down to 15!! And I have to take it with Dinner, rather than right before bed. As far as weight loss, I am almost at 40 pounds with my 3 month anniversary this Wednesday. So I am doing good and feeling great!!

I did not find my weight loss rate to be slower than anyone else. Preop I was taking 300 units of insulin. I am now taking about 30 units. I am at goal and still losing.  Congratulations on your loss thus far!! By the way, this is not an updated picture of me, I am much smaller now. I keep having trouble uploading a new picture.
